[up][up]You guessed right, to be more precise, Lu Bu's theme from Dynasty Warriors Strike Force.

Watching that gameplay video, I'm kind of glad that the AI characters don't seem to play as aggressively as a player all the time. Seeing a guy who's basically Lu Bu but with dragon powers tear through armies like they're nothing is a terrifying sight.

...This is also making me want to play Warriors Orochi 3, which is the only semi-mainline Dynasty Warriors title I own at the moment.

[up]You could buy it. You don't really need to know about the stories of the series in order to enjoy the game. Just know that there is NO ENGLISH VOICE ACTING in the game. So if that turns you off you might want to reconsider. But if you do buy it, the first stage contains one of the most epic song Koei has ever made in my honest opinion.

I, personally, am very fond of this song from WO3.

Also Jeanne's theme is pretty kickass

[up][up]Buy what? WO3? I already own it, as I said. I've just been putting it off because the updated re-release came out and I'd rather not play the whole game more than once. Though I still need to buy the system that the re-release is on (unless an update was made for the PS 3 version that I haven't heard about...).

But yeah, the music is very nice.

Going back to Volga a bit, is there any sort of rivalry between Volga and Darunia? Considering that Volga is basically a humanized/alternate incarnation of Volvagia, I was hoping that there'd be something...

They don't really meet. Volga attacks Skyloft during the route split and he's killed on the next map he appears on.

[1] the new adventure map sadly it's the same Zelda 1 map. But it has 8 bit weapons for everyone, heart pieces for the new guys, new skulltula picture and 1 hit KO challenges with a new freeze time powerup occasionally dropping in them.

This might be greedy of me to bring up, but are there any features that come to mind that you would enjoy seeing in a sequel?

More characters,

More effort in blending of items with attacks like making a combo finisher move for them,

Less grindy progression for adventure mode, with dungeons.

More games represented even if it just got an adventure mode map or an enemy,

A town area like DW 7/8 like say hyrule castle town instead of the push button bazaar.

So, first impressions.

Early game is easy. Beaten a few levels and everything I can get to in adventure mode, I just picked up Lana. Played in every difficulty without issue.

Trying to beat a level 99 network link at Lele 22 doesn't work too well. I uses Shiek and after a little while of fiddling with it I could easily kill dinoflos with my level 22 power. Two basic attacks, dodge, repeat. But as much as I tries I couldn't kill the armies fast enough so either Link or the Allied base would fall. But I did get pretty far a few times and ttied different strats like killing the captains first, taking a fort first, etc. But eventually on that map the captains are all dead and armies swarm the base and link.

I couldn't even touch dinoflos with Link just as he barely did any damage. But he could tear through armies with spin attack better than shiek.

[up][up]Integrating items into attack chains would be very cool!

One thing that crossed my mind was a Dungeon Attack. Samurai Warriors had a mode where you (and possibly a partner) attack a castle on your lonesome and slaughter your way through its corridors. I was thinking something like that, where you plunge into a dungeon and fight your way through floor after floor, but with the possibility of puzzle rooms (not sure how complicated, maybe just like the quiz missions) and bosses at certain depths. Oh, and the music would be a Musou-style remix of the Zelda 2 dungeon BGM.

[up]Would it be possible to attack in co-op?

[up] I'll try with my bro, though now my shiek is level 32 from trying to beat it and I dojoed link up to try but fail at it.

But I don't know how the game compensates for two players. Does it spawn more army? More elite units?

and while I could Shiek it up, Link couldn't do nearly as much damage to the dinoflos. And my brother hasn't played the game yet

Hopefully he'd be able to focus on mowing down the minions while you take out the officers. Er, though you raise a good point. I have no idea how they compensate for co-op either.

Something that would make this game better (if it wasn't way out of performance range) would be if grunts had the intelligence of captains. They'd attack more rapidly, defend more strategically, and maybe consider running away once in a while.

And possibly, get promoted on the battlefield if they were REALLY skilled.

[up] They would really have to get rid of the 'all attacks are devastating' missions and not grade via damage anymore if they did that.

They would also have to make you not flinch from attacks. Otherwise, any time you were in reach of more than a few enemies, you'd basically have to set your controller down and wait to die.

That you can do already with the badges, you can ignore up to 3 attacks before flinching when maxed out.

That is why I don't like the naginata. The combo keeps her in place for so long the mooks right behind you can smack you and it's such a long stun.

[up][up]Right, but I wouldn't want to have to buy a series of badges to be able to even play the game. If the ordinary soldiers are as aggressive as officers, they'd better not make the player flinch.

One way I'd thought to handle it was to make enemies deal steady damage when you're in their reach, but they'd have a special attack that would flinch you, which they use as often as they attack in most Musou games.

Then you would need hpregen, either automatically or with more hearts on the field, to balance it out And thus you would end up with forcing players to not fight as long and make them take downtime. Probably a bad idea in the long run.

Meanwhile ranged weapons like magic rod would avoid the damage making them stronger

One way to counter it would be giving enemies a pretty good chance to drop hearts when you kill them. As long as you stay stuck in and killing them faster than they hurt you, you should be able to keep ahead.

Magic Rod is pretty neat. Whenever I do the combo that leads to Link setting mooks aflame with a fan of flames, I keep thinking abou-BURN BURN BURN TO THE GROU-BURN.

Something to note, dodging is a great move to have as I've discovered. You can't get hit while dodging by anything, pretty silly when you dodge Dodongo's firebreath by dodging through it. But you can abuse this by dodging forward into enemy attacks, like the Gibdo's aoe petrify. Dodge into him a couple moments after he starts the move and you'll be right on top of him to break his weakpoint.
