I strongly feel that Cue Irony should be renamed to Suffering For Your Art. The trope, as it is, exists mainly as an opportunity to share trivia about media creators suffering/being injured in the creation of media. The trope description reads,
However, the majority of the examples don't involve irony at all. It seems like an awkward combination of two things which are not really inextricably linked: suffering and irony. Plus, the quoted text acknowledges that the irony is only present "more often than not," and a glance at the examples shows even this is overstating it.
So I think the title needs to be changed. Perhaps it should be split into a trope for works created under ironic conditions (such as a work with an anti-consumerist message being created just for money, for example) and works whose creation involved suffering, much like Dyeing for Your Art lists works whose creation involved hair dye or weight change.
Moreover, if it were changed to Suffering For Your Art, it'd go well with Dyeing for Your Art. As it is, it has a title which doesn't even make a lot of sense. Where does the "Cue" part come in? Some sort of weak pun on "cruel"? It's strange.
Also, Cue Irony doesn't have very many links or inbounds, so it doesn't look like it's doing very well.
