Yeah but he still hates himself and is going to find out he killed his parents soon. the avengers barely tolerate him besides steve, and while he is a celebrity it doesn't mean the people actually care about him.

TIL that there's some a-holes with Tumblr accounts going on line and claiming that the film is full of rape jokes and transphobia/misogyny. Which it isn't. There's sex jokes, sex and naked butts of both sexes but none of the stuff these said a-holes are lying about.

And Tumblr-having fans of Deadpool are beyond pissed at them. Which is nice.

People love making up shit to be offended out.

Also, it's Deadpool. I'm all in favor of calling out gross shit in entertainment but Deadpool's whole thing is being crass and offensive as possible. What did they expect?

It's not so much that as these a-holes are deliberately targeting the film with something they KNOW will piss off and infuriate the vast majority of Tumblr users, a lot of whom will shoot first and not bother asking questions later.

It's quite clever, but really fucking odious.

It's amusing because the movie has one specific joke that seems practically aimed at the more proggressive folks (like sections of Tumblr claim to be); "Happy international woman's day."

It was one of the jokes that got the entire theater clapping in support of it (alongside the scene Deadpool crushes his limbs fighting Colossus).

Plus I will say they handled Vanessa's character very well, even if she does get kidnapped. And everyone loves NTWH now.

One person I follow there said that the joke Deadpool makes about the strong lady being butch was apparently thought of as transmysoginistic.

My audience (oh okay, they're not my audience as such, just the one I watched the film with) laughed like hell at that bit. Though some of the guys' laughter (like mine) was a bit... pained shall we say?

I'm sorry? That bit with Angel Dust? Which was in both the Green Band and Red Band trailers as it happens? And no-one batted an eyelash at all the way through the marketing campaign. If she was any more a woman, with those kind of FRANKLY FUCKING OBVIOUS SECONDARY SEXUAL CHARACTERISTICS, as I learned to call them in school, she'd have to have been wearing Marilyn Monroe's white fucking dress, carrying Sarah Connor's fucking Remington 870 shotgun and serenading Barack fucking Obama with Je T'aime on the White House fucking lawn!

It's bullshit. Wade Wilson was taking the piss out of HER because he was terrified, not because for one moment he thought she was transexual. And if he did he wouldn't have made the joke at all. Bear in mind what he's up to when we first see him as Wade Wilson - stopping some geek pizza delivery dude from stalking a WOMAN.

Its funny because I really liked how they handled the women in the film.

Vanessa particularly. She's a prostitute. This is explicitly stated. And they almost INSTANTLY go out of their way to take on a male bar patron who slaps her ass and catcalls her with both Vanessa and Deadpool responding negatively to the catcalling.

Deadpool proceeds to take her on an ACTUAL date and treats her like an actual human being. And its really kind of adorable.

Their relationship is really sexual, but there were also some really good small scenes of them just being a couple. The scene were Wade is sitting in a chair and crying while she's asleep was A REALLY POWERFUL SCENE.

Hell, we're introduced to Deadpool with him being payed by teenage girls to scare off a stalker and we're even told that Wade doesn't do that kind of stuff really and that he has a soft spot. That was a good scene too.

Later in the film, we see Vanessa working at a strip club and none of the girls are really put down because of their position. I don't think they really even comment on it actually. I had kind of forgotten about it because we have scenes with Vanessa that are completely unrelated; like her walking to a local market to get food and walking to her apartment.

There's a joke made by Stan Lee about 'renting love', but that seemed more directed at the position (stripper/sex work) rather than gender of the characters which is combined with old guy and household name Stan Lee being in a clearly adult situation rather than explicitly a sexist joke.

I think the ONLY part that felt contradictory was the Taxi Driver. He wanted to get with this girl but the girl was with some other guy. And Deadpool advises him to kidnap the rival lover and put the corpse on the girl's doorstep? Funny scene, but it felt really backwards considering the previous scenes in the film.

It's clearly Deadpool just being a dick to Angel Dust. No one else ever finds her to be at all masculine, and Colossus actually calls Angel Dust a beautiful lady during the Wardrobe Malfunction.

It's a bit like the joke with Francis having something in his teeth. It's clearly untrue, Deadpool's just being an asshole.

Yeah, but Wade's not really Wade anymore. Or at least not fully. He's Deadpool. And he's more than a bit insane at that point.

The joke with Dopinder (the taxi driver) is less about winning a girl and more about Deadpool being a callous sociopath.

"Donde esta Francesco?"

Funny thing is, most folks Deadpool asked that question to died still not knowing the answer. Because they'd only known him as Ajax. Which makes it even funnier, somehow.

Eh.

I feel like, if the point of the joke is for Deadpool to be a sociopath, there were ways to do that without feeling contradictory.

Since Ajax mentions that he once went through the procedure, and the facility had apparently been around for a while, I assumed Ajax was just another subject and for the whole movie was surprised when there wasn't any hint of a mysterious unknown boss or something as a Sequel Hook.

All in all, the end of this movie is surprisingly neat and complete. I half expected it to be revealed to be a dream or something.

Apparently one draft of the script featured Doctor Killebrew being revealed as the Bigger Bad behind Ajax and the organization, setting up a sequel.

I'd say the implication is still around in the movie. Ajax keeps saying "We" (e.g "We're not making you into a superhero, we're making you a super-slave") and never claims leadership of the organization (he just says "I' run this facility", for everything else he uses "We") and presumably the Nebulous Evil Organization (Department H in the comics, i think) is still around.

There's also the fact Angel Dust survives the film, so she may feature into a sequel.

Where did she even go, anyway? I saw Colossus carrying her and the other mutant girl away from the falling helicarrier but she disappeared after that.

I imagine Colossus left her in the Blackbird and presumably took her to the proper authorities. Who the proper authorities might be I'm unsure.

She was in the trunk with Dopinder's rival.

Whatever else Dopinder is at the end of the movie, he's rich. All those toys that Deadpool left in the cab will fetch him lots of money. Assuming in that seemingly police-free bit of the world, he can find a corrupt enough pawnbroker.

If the world is not quite so police free, he has a kidnapped possibly dead person in his trunk and a bag full of probably unregistered guns.

Considering Batu was still screaming I think he was either pinned and panicking or injured, but not dead.

And anyway he's probably going to jail considering he had a dude in his trunk and a bag full of weapons in his cab.

Glad to know this movie is making Moral Guardians heads explode both on the Right and on the Hyper-Left over on Tumblr.

My sister went and saw it, she loved it. I'm gonna go see it. Sounds hilarious.

Ryan Reynolds just seems to BE his character, which is always impressive.

Unregistered guns can mean you just get pennies on the dollar of what they should cost. And there's a lot of shady characters in the pawn business in even well-policed areas.
