Is any higher-up at Disney seeing how fast the Hullabaloo fund-raiser reached its goal, and how fast the level continues to rise?? Doesn't THAT convince them that people want 2D animation?!

If there's something I've learned in my years on this planet, it's that companies are going to look at market data and see what they want to see.

So, no, it likely won't.

One day, I will make an animated short about animation corporations run by actual toddlers.

The lines won't even change.

Who knows...even if they don't do the movie themselves, Disney has been known to invest in unusual projects in the past. That's how "Who framed Roger Rabbit" and "Nightmare before Christmas" became a reality. So even if they don't do it themselves, they might dish out the money to someone else to realize a project.

[up]Of course, in both cases, it took two powerhouse directors (Roger Zemeckis, who already had proved himself a huge moneymaker with the Back to the Future trilogy, and Tim Burton, who already had hits like Beetlejuice and Batman under his belt) pushing for those projects for Disney to get off its butt and support them. While now, even Lassetter pushing for 2D ultimately amounted for jack and shit in the long run.

I don't like the fact that Disney blamed the not-so stellar box office gross of Pat F on the fact that boys wouldn't want to watch a princess movie.

I mean, it's not like guys aren't interested in ponies? Right?

And I don't get the bad timing of family movies going up against movies. Let's look at some examples:

Bon Voyage Charlie Brown vs. The Empire Strikes Back Winner: Empire

Monsters Inc vs. Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone Winner: Sorceror's Stone (though both are good movies)

Race For Your Life Charlie Brown vs. A New Hope Winner: A New Hope (though the former did come out about a month after the latter, but both were summer 1977 moviees. Again, both are good movies)

WALL-E vs. The Dark Knight Winner: Dark Knight (Again, both are good)

Winnie the Pooh vs. Deathly Hallows Part 2 Winner: Deathly Hallows

Powerpuff Girls Movie vs. Attack of the Clones Winner: Attack of the Clones (though I like both movies)

Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie vs. Chamber of Secrets Winner: Chamber of Secrets (though I also like both)

Muppets Most Wanted vs. Divergent Winner: Divergent (I definitely prefer Muppets)

Wreck-it-Ralph vs. Breaking Dawn Part 2 Winner: Sadly Breaking Dawn

EDIT: Okay, time to react to the actual topic:

Jesus Christ, I...am at a loss of words.

Folks, I know this is Yack Fest, and therefore the adherence to topic is a lot looser, but look at the thread title.

Whether or not Disney will ever di 2-D animation again is really completely unrelated to the alleged salary cartel. I'm quite sure there's a thread about Disney and 2-D animation this conversation would go better in...

Ah, yeah, right here. Please use the search function.

Now Blue Sky Studios is confirmed to have been involved in the cartel.

Joy.

Let's pack ALLLL the major animation studios in the cartel already.

Which ones are left? I mean, of the ones which make movies...

There is Laika and Warner Brothers (not that they have made that movies yet), but I don't think that any of the other animation companies are seated in the US.

Is this just... like .... a required POINT a studio reaches when it grows?!?

There's REEL FX, which made Free Birds and The Book Of Life.

From the article:

The “Competitors List” detailed “rules” naming the studios which Pixar was directed “not to ‘recruit directly’ or ‘solicit or poach employees’” from: Blue Sky, Dream Works Animation, Image Movers Digital, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

No word on Warner Bros, but considering they are one of the major leading film studios I wouldn't be surprised

The Comic Book movies aside, Warner Brothers make an animated movie every five years or so...that used to be more a side-venue for them, only now that Animated Movies have become big they have start throwing their dice in the ring. But they naturally produce a lot of animated series, so maybe.

I had heard that director/animator Ward Kimball used to smoke weed with Krazy Kat creator George Herriman.

They would have a huge market for drugs amongst the casts of their teen comedies and crappy live action TV movies. For God's sake, Lindsay Lohan and fucking Miley Cyrus came outta there.

Update on this scandal! The judge overseeing this case has decided not to dismiss the lawsuit after the plaintiffs revised the complaint fueling it. Link:http://www.cartoonbrew.com/law/judge-rules-disney-pixar-dreamworks-sony-and-other-studios-cant-evade-wage-fixing-lawsuit-118129.html

See, when I saw the words "Capped employees" I thought that mean someone had gone postal at an animation studio.

....O...kay?

Anyway, I hope this leads to more fair deals for the artists involved. Part of me fears that this might hurt the industry but Im not anyone to say people working their butts off to make movies should be paid less than they deserve to keep the industry alive.
