Nah, it's not silly. Generally, IIRC, it's okay to make a trope article for one's own fanfiction. But it's not okay to pimp your own work at Fanfic Recs.
Yep. You're allowed to have fun making pages for your own fics. They'll be indexed under Troper Works. You can even cross-link if you think your fic has a good example of something. You just can't put any of your own stuff in Recs.
I've made pages for a couple of my works - one which someone put on the Recs already and one, recently, that people here don't seem to know about that's just indexed in Troper Works. Did them both up for fun, anyway, just because I think it's fun when I'm writing and I actually have Tropes in mind as I'm doing so.
In which I attempt to be a writer.Same here. I've made a few of my own as well. Kinda want to make some more articles, in all honesty, but I'd rather have more chapters up before I actually did so.
So did I. Just need to get some tropes on there.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.Wow, that really clears up a lot. Though, and this is just another input of mine, there's nothing more flattering than the idea of someone being so engrossed in my story that they write a page for me. I mean, the fic I'm talking about is something I've been slaving over for about a year and I only have six reviews and one follow and favorite.
(Do I want it to have more attention? Of course. I personally believe I'm not a bad writer. I do think it's because of my strange idea that led to it's unpopularity though.)
At this rate, I may as well do it myself now that I know I can. I can put in the extra elbow grease just for fun. Because tropes are fun after all.
"i guess you could say my life's a mess. but i'm still looking pretty in this dress."
Don't worry about strange ideas. Sometimes, they catch on.
The tropes pages for my work: The Great Desert and National Anthem The first is The Legend Of Zelda meets science fiction / western (written before Skyward Sword came out) and the other is Super Smash Brothers Brawl meets The Hunger Games.
As for the reviews I have on them - it took a *long* time. Most of my stories (oneshots, mostly) I'm lucky to get two or three reviews on. I have one multichapter fic (a revision of an earlier one) in the Legend of Zelda fandom that has NO reviews, and it's been up for a couple of years.
Just write for fun, write for yourself, and if you're lucky, someone will come along. You always get forgotten pretty quickly, though... that's what I've found in fandom. I don't think I've ever truly been a Big Name Fan.
In which I attempt to be a writer.Well, in Tvtropes there is There Is No Such Thing As Notability, so doing your own tropes page wouldn't be a problem. While I didn't make the trope page for my fic, I edit it from times to times and add in other tropes pages.
My work is here. Current main fic: Tengen Toppa Gurren SolverniaOh my goodness, I can't believe I've let myself forget the first rule of writing: do it for yourself, not for others. Or that's at least something I personally follow. I'll certainly be investing my time in a personal tropes page for Royal Heights today now that I feel the inspiration coming.
I'll have to devise a character page, nightmare fuel page, a YMMV-it'll be quite the project but I'll gladly take it on.
"i guess you could say my life's a mess. but i'm still looking pretty in this dress."Actually, hold that thought. YMMV tropes are more of an audience reaction, so last I checked, you're not really supposed to do those. Ditto with awesome/funny/tearjerker/etc. subpages. Characters, Shout-Out, and Trivia would be viable, though.
I learn something new everyday. I'm still looking through this site to figure how to exactly make one of these. Maybe I'm just not looking close enough but I can't quite find any sort of particular button or section specifically for that.
"i guess you could say my life's a mess. but i'm still looking pretty in this dress."I'll lend you a hand in starting an article. Looks like the fic you want to trope is called "Royal Heights", so here's a link: Royal Heights. Click the "edit" button as you would for any other article on the site, and whammo, there ya are.
For subpages, you'd do much the same thing, but instead of Fanfic.Royal Heights, it would be Characters.Royal Heights.
That help?
Wow, thank you. This really helps. Can't wait to get started.
"i guess you could say my life's a mess. but i'm still looking pretty in this dress."And they are, dear sir. Take a look for yourself. I've still got some tweaking to do but it's coming along nicely.

"i guess you could say my life's a mess. but i'm still looking pretty in this dress."Oh, I think I may have pulled a whoops with one of mine. One of my tropes got a YMMV earmark. "Write What You Know." I ended up making a YMMV page for it, but it was lonely there, so I added "Tearjerker" just for the heck of it. (Not a full Tearjerker page, just listed on YMMV). I didn't detail it - I've just gotten reviews from people who say I jerked some tears out of them with things that happened to characters.
I can cut it if necessary. National Anthem 's YMMV page if it needs a look in regards to cutting.
In which I attempt to be a writer.I don't know for sure, but if one's gotten reviews - in other words, there's a record of audience reactions - then I would imagine that it's okay to refer to them in making YMMV entries.
But I'm not an expert, so don't take that as gospel.
If you get more that one review to your fanfiction stating "Oh my god that part made me cry", AND that was what you intended then it's probably a Tearjerker moment.
Looking over reviews for that one:
I'm getting sad-face icons, as in "you made me do this T.T " and one reviewer is quoted as saying "Right in the feels, Shadsie, right in the feels" after calling a pair of character-deaths "especially heartwrenching." Yet another reader, in regards to a more lighthearted entry into the side-story series that makes up the 'verse said "after poking my feels (and the rest of the cast) with a sharp stick..." Another called that same side-story "simultaneously depressing and hilarious," Another review on an earlier chapter by one of the regulars asked me "my feels! Take them!"
So, apparently I'm doing something right in my intentional tearjerker writing.
The one thing I am unsure of now is... indexing. Someone helped me out by indexing it into Troper Works. The page for my other fic is actually listed in the "Fanfics" - "pages people bothered to make a page for." It wasn't my doing... I don't know if putting it in Fanfics/Videogames is proper, or if that's something I should wait around for someone else to do, like Recommends. (The other fic was on Recommendations *before* I made a page for it for fun. The second one hasn't been recommended by anyone so far and the page is just something I made for fun recently because I noticed how aware I was of various Tropes I was using in writing it).
In which I attempt to be a writer. My three works' tropes pages I built myself are linked in my user profile. I pretty much have done all the work on them myself, which is why they're not fully up-to-date with the various chapters. For the most part I update the really major things. I've just not had the time nor inclination to go through and cherry-pick out minor examples.
Personally, I've been having a lot of fun catering to it as of late. Adding things, editing, even sneaking in notes for myself for later chapters. I am hoping to create something pretty lengthy, especially when I start the sequel and a tropes page along with that.
As for the additional pages, stuff like Nightmare Fuel are just so fun to write. It's a shame throwing it in myself on the page would seem a little ludicrous. I am thinking of asking a reader of the fic to help me out with it. Just to flesh it out a bit.

"i guess you could say my life's a mess. but i'm still looking pretty in this dress."My understanding is that crosswicking is now mandatory, just like for any other work.

Bigotry in the name of inclusion is still bigotry. The rule is that you're supposed to put an example on both the trope page (if the trope page allows examples at all) and the works page (if there is one). Heard that recently from Septimus, if memory serves.
Bigotry in the name of inclusion is still bigotry.Septimus can say what he likes, but if it were that important I'd expect it to show as project to get things already in the wiki crosswicked to capacity. No such project is underway in long-term/perpetual. Crosswicking is strongly desired but it is not mandatory; nobody's going to ban you and cutlist your articles for not being fully crosswicked. Just make an effort.

Nous restons ici.
Would one consider it petty to want their own story featured on this website? I mean like a legit tropes page just for their Fanfiction or something? I dunno, it's been a secret desire of mine for some time now and I haven't quite made it obvious because I know it's a bit silly to want something like that.
