Hey, what are everyone's take on the slang in Splatoon? I keep seeing people thinking Nintendo is being 100% serious about it and are trying to be cool by connecting with modern kids, but I think all of it is done tongue-in-cheek and ironically.

Which I think is hilarious.

I seriously doubt they're being 100% serious. The thing has too much of a 90's era Nickelodeon vibe for that. Though I can understand why it might end up in Narm territory for a lot of people.

I'm thinking Narm Charm myself.

It's definetely done with humour. There's just too much of it to be even taken seriously.

It's wonderful wonderful cheese. The whole thing is full of that late 90s "hip"ness, that it can't not be ironic.

Actually, come to think about it, it probably is a sinister and genius move on the dev team's part. It's the same Nintendo brand nostalgia tickling, but now it's reaching out towards them millenials.

It's good to see actual advertisement, after the relative stealth of The Wonderful 101.

I wonder if W101 suffered from not having an obvious hook.

One of the reasons, yeah. It's also hurt by an awful tutorial for a game that's far from straight-forward.

Wonderful 101 suffered from little advertisement, not being a big name like Mario or Donkey Kong, being too hard too fast and a terrible tutorial...

And being a Wii U game.

Note: I say this being probably the biggest Nintendo fanboy you'll ever come across.

The next Global Testfire is in just under 3 hours.

It also didn't help that Splatoon has a really intuitive setup (spread paint, shoot things) and a relatively simple control scheme, whereas Wonderful101 was a bit more complicated and the controls took quite a bit of getting used to. Splatoon is really easy to pick up and play, whereas with Wonderful101 you have to practice for a while before it really because smooth.

I'm gonna specifically avoid the Roller just to fuck with the people that DO pick Rollers.

I should actually be able to play this testfire. I didn't expect to be able to make it, but I got a lucky break so now I have time. I can't wait!

Do you guys think there will be any changes from the last testfires?

I think there was announcement that it was going to be the same, but I could be wrong. I should be able to make this Testfire, but I won't be too put out if I miss it, given that the game itself comes out within the week.

101 was a Platinum game, so it was always destined to bomb. Bad tutorials/demo didn't help, along with little advertising. Plus it was released next to GTAV in America. It was always doomed, and Nintendo sent it to die. Splatoon will do better based on Japan alone.

Bayonetta 2 didn't do too hot either, even though it topped a ton of people's Best Games of 2014 lists.
