What I'm trying to say is, why can't it be October right now?

Because there's still so much that needs to happen yet between now and then.

At the very least, skipping to October means we miss the likes of Guardians Of The Galaxy, and that just won't do!

[up] Fair enough. In that case, I want it to be August right now. No one's going to mourn skipping over Planes 2.

In a movie where death is a theme and there is an afterlife, I don't think killing off all your main characters is a big deal.

The trailer was terrible. Way to spoil the first 75% of the movie. Great job, trailer guys!

I'd say it was probably more like the first 20 to 30 minutes.

[up][up]Maybe, maybe not. In the last year or so some trailers have gotten more clever about making it look like they are revealing everything, but are basically lying. Frozen and Godzilla are the first two that come to mind for me.

To me, the only parts that looked like they were revealing something were the shots with that giant statue. I feel like that's supposed to be a big moment. You could count the Lightning Reveal shot as well.

The maze isn't a big deal? |D

When freeze framing, I saw a elderly lady climbing beneath Manolo during the climbing scene in the trailer.

I don't know why, but the maze scene feels like The Centerpiece Spectacular to me. The statue scene looks like it could be the start of the climax.

I noticed her too! This is just one of my many WMGs for this film, but I think she might be his mother. To quote myself from the WMG page:

It's been implied that Manolo is a "Well Done, Son" Guy, and in fiction, it's nearly required that this kind of character have a dead mother. He gets to connect with her (or reconnect, depending on how old he was when she died) once he enters the Land of the Remembered, and she becomes a mentor/guardian to him during his quest.

That'd be sweet if it is his grandmother. It would remind me of the scene in Corpse Bride when Victor reunites with his puppy. Though this plot point would be more heartfelt.

wild mass guessHis supposed grandmother has been watching him until he arrives at the land of the remembering.

That's debatable. Especially since the point here is for the lovers to be reunited *in life*. On the other hand, even if the whole cast were killed, they could just as easily be revived if the Death-Gods wished, I guess.

When freeze framing, I saw a elderly lady climbing beneath Manolo during the climbing scene in the trailer.

She also shows up with him when he's walking through the Land of Remembrance, along with a few others. I'm guessing he gets his own afterlife posse in the movie.

[up]That sounds kind of cute.

I hope Danny Trejo's character is similar to Brad Garret's hook-handed man in Tangled. Might be fun to have a big lovable bruiser with that deep voice.

[up] The "all you can eat churros" guy looks and acts like he might be that kind of character. I think his name's Carmelo.

Also, y'all need to get to Gutierrez's Facebook page as soon as you can. They're recording the score now, and he's been posting videos of the sessions. He says he's going to take them all down soon, so try to watch and listen before then. There's a lot of choir chanting involved. That and a dash of Morricone. They're using "The Ecstasy of Gold" at one point.

Seeing the pilot of El Tigre makes the whole "Morricone" thing sound familiar territory. Works too thanks to the setting.

[up]Imdb says that Trejo is playing "Skeleton Luis" while the director is playing Carmelo.

[up] I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think Luis is supposed to be Manolo's grandfather.

I don't know if we've seen him yet. Maybe in the next trailer. But you know who I wish we'd here a peep from soon? This Candle Maker guy. What does he do? I know he's in charge of the Book of Life, but does he serve any purpose beyond that? Because he isn't very good at that job, considering that a modern-day museum manages to get ahold of the thing.

The candles are supposed to be souls, so I'm guessing he's a god of life or something like that. Maybe this is like The Wizard of Oz and he's the Wizard. Maybe La Muerte is like "You have to go find this guy if you want to be resurrected" and Xibalba is like "I'll get you my pretty!"

Well, there is that new Weird Al album "Mandatory Fun" coming out on the 15th of July yet, but I suppose that getting a new album weeks after it releases is easier than catching a newly released movie in theaters weeks after it first comes out.

It's coming to Comic-Con on the 25th. We'll almost certainly get some new stuff there. Also, here's a pretty lengthy podcast interview with Gutierrez about getting the film off the ground and some of the ideas present in it. After listening to it, I'm pretty sure the depression is going to hit Up/Toy Story 3 levels at some points.

For a film he's workd on for years, this sounds like a magnum opus of Nightmare Before Christmas levels. OAO

Oh and here's someone talking about a preview they did a few days ago. The stakes for this bet are a lot higher than I thought. Betcha some Scenery Gorn will come out of it.
