... I have an image of a load of Turian commandos landing on Shanxi and immediately being overwhelmed by a force of Machops and Garyados. With a sort of "What the HECK" feeling.

Biotics being flung about by a few Mewtwo clones.

I think the Council races wouldn't be sure how to deal with a race that utilises essentially a symbiotic style of warfare - technology coupled with ostensibly sentient animals.

Right! The pokémon world is probably truly alien to the rest of the galaxy. They never encountered a species like that before (unless you count the Rachni, but those were still just one species), so they'd have no idea how to deal with it. If the Turians wound up getting in contact with a Metagross or a similar Pseudo-Legendary, they'd probably advocate for complete annihilation of the colony. I was also given advice that the Salarians might try to kidnap pokémon for study in their STG bases and the Asari would want to avoid genocide and try to initiate a peaceful discourse.

This isn't even getting into the myriad ways the whole place would be different if instead of a Council Race, the Batarians or Quarians made first contact.

Or worse—some Krogan mercenary gets lost and finds himself on Shanxi and is almost caught in a pokéball... that would be pretty funny.

Doesn't creature require to be a pokemon in order to pokeball would work on them?..

Otherwise they would work on humans <_<

Maybe. But that begs the question of what defines a pokémon?

*shrugs* Being that has so much energy inside them that they can use that energy to unleash variety of special abilities? Ability to evolve(which apparently also releases a lot of energy)?

...Beings created by Arceus/descend from Mew/something something legendary related? *shrugs* Its kinda hard to define it, I'd personally go by their special abilities and energy related things few scientists speak about in the game. I mean, apparently by sacrificing pokemon lives, you can use that energy to fire a giant beam of nukeness death, so I'd say thats something

You could try to do that through figuring out things that are common to all types of pokemon, but not humans. Though game mechanics make that bit silly, I mean, like, pokemon can apparently be stored as data in computer, as can items... Thats little bit weird since its pretty non sensical <_< But then again, in fanfiction you don't need to adapt everything from games perfectly

Then again, premise of pokemon kinda requires non sensicality, since fitting physical beings into ball shaped capture/data storage devices is weird. I guess pokemon are by nature some sort of weird energy beings that can be converted into data as result of what they are? :p

The part I've highlighted is the part where Eric and his squad find out more about the unimplemented security protocols in Mass Effect 2. I wanted to go for an NSA analogy, but I realized it might not work for a fair number of reasons, like how would it tie into canon, for example? Or how would Eric believably be let go after blowing the whistle? So I decided to change it, but leave in Vincent Nascari, the Alliance analyst and fugitive, because he would have a role to play later in the series.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, let me know.

@Nord: I'm sorry, but I don't recall where you highlighted anything, and I don't have enough skill to help you out. I don't want you to feel excluded due to my own topic, but I'm afraid there's nothing I can do from my end to help out.

@Spooky: I have two explanations for how pokéballs would fit into this story: either pokéballs did not exist until after Deoxys was captured by Brendan/May, thus leading to the discovery of the prothean data cache on Mars and thus the mass effect, which could be used as a Hand Wave for how the pokéballs work... OR, pokéballs simply do not exist and pokémon trainers just walk around with their pokémon by their side like Ash and Pikachu.

[up] Why did you have to make it so saaaaaaaaad?!

Seriously, though, really good. I like this Shepard. Paragon towards his crew but bordering on Renegade with the wider galaxy.

Any romance options in mind for him? I'm so used to seeing FF about a femshep, seeing a male one again is good. (My FF is about a male shep, so biased!)

Actually, that's a really good way of describing him. Huh.

I honestly really want to add some levity, but I can only drip-feed it until Elsa is recruited. Then we get into healthy doses.

And no romance options in mind. There's... some prior issues in the romance department that are yet unrevealed, and he sees his crew as family. So, dating his squadmates hits his "squick" button hard.

[up]That'll be a good and rather unique way to approach it! have to say, I did enjoy the "cutting the knot" approach he took with Hock.

"I have a space faring ship that can knock out Reapers... why am I choosing to engage a gunship on foot again?"

And Kasumi seems a little more ruthless in this universe as well. On a side note, please tell me that th Southern Isles mysteriously get surrounded by a wall of ice...?

I didn't mean for Kasumi to come off as more ruthless.

And Shepard's question was answered: too much collateral damage.

Mybe t's just how I read it: she seems happy to shank people in the spine. Not a bad thing and probably due to the fact they fired first.

And yes, I did like that the gunship Rescue may have unintended consequences.

Will be interesting to see how this evolves over ME 2 and into ME 3!

True, guess I never noticed it that much when I did the Hock mission.

Having just done DLC, yo ubegin to realise how happy the Crew are with wholesale slaughter. Kinda .... unnverving. But funny.

So, enjoying massively; looking forward to more. Just curious, what's your method / writing rate like? Mine fluctuates wildly - first FF I managed to churn out in 20 days, the next i got half done in 2 months, then spent another 8 shifting the last few chapters.

Well, I uploaded the first two chapters on the same day. It took me two and bit weeks to put up chapter three, over four weeks for chapter four, and so far it's taken me three and a bit for the last two chapters.

But, uh, as the production time has gone up, chapter length has gone up. I've gone from 1,400 to 1,700 to 2,600 to 7,600, then a dip to 7,300, and the latest chapter is 11,800.

I wanna get the next one out in two weeks, max.

It. Is. Done. All four chapters, the introduction, and the epilogue. I need to have someone help me polish this out...

Now that was resolved, I had to attend to look over the plot of A New Day. I'll sum parts of it up here:

After Eric had done his training as a combat engineer and his first assignment, I would have him and his squad go to Ilos, assisting a salarian archaeology group. There, Eric discussed with one of the salarain archeologies, Dr. Kirik Andra, over their findings, including a Prothean artifact. Eric explained that, according to the data readings, it was a headset, containing an AI called Vision. Its list of functions included detecting a phenomenon called indoctrination and run combat simulations. They also get to know each other. Eric said goodbye to Kirit and went to his tent, sharing it with Garrett. There, they became intimate for one another and slept together for the first time in their lives. The next day, near the end of their mission, the team tested the artifact with Eric as the volunteer. Roy and the others expressed their concerns about his well-being. The mission ended shortly after with the device turned in to Council officials, as per part of the interstellar law to turn in any Prothean artifacts.

Their next mission had them work with a Cerberus defector, helping him infiltrate a Cerberus base as it contained valuable information on his and the Alliance's part. He had a falling out with Cerberus due to ideological differences and the fact they abused his work, conducting experiments modeled of his. However, they were intercepted and a fight ensued. They won and the mission was successful. After that, the squad was sent to Freedom's Progress, as decreed by the Alliance brass over the outcome of Eric's first mission.

I've got like two in the works right now, both of them post-Reaper War: One is called "Terminus Rising" and focuses on a planet in the Terminus Systems that slowly grows into a galactic superpower capable of challenging the Citadel (much to their consternation which eventually leads to a war after each of them launch strikes at the other's capital disguised as terrorist attacks) and the other is a sort of Buddy Cop Show or detective fic called "Citadel Blue" where two C-Sec cadets end up uncovering a plot (I haven't really decided whether to make it a full-on alien thing or something from Cerberus remnants, since I only just started it) against the Citadel and defying orders to investigate and try and stop it.

The most memorable moments on 3 of his Mass Effect crossover fic:

  • Vigil: Ultimate argument: "And I have a bear."
  • No Gods Only Guns: "I AM NIFTU CAL, BIOTIC GOD! AND YOU WILL SMELL MY GREATNESS!"
  • Renegade: "I've yet to encounter a potentially dangerous situation that can't be solved by smashing through walls." Garrus said.

I've decided to start over with A New Day, since I needed to get back into writing and I realized I didn't plan that far ahead. Hopefully, this version should reflect that. You'll know that I overhauled the story, especially Eric. I made him younger, at 19, just graduated from high school.

You can find the other version on SpaceBattles and Sufficient Velocity. Let me know what you think! waii
