I have to agree; there's nothing there indicating a tragedy at all.
I swear there is an image somewhere in that level that both says welcome and, "things have gone very, very wrong; you're late to the party" but I lack the PC version to go hunting for a screencap.
Doesn't look like a tragedy, so I think it should be pulled.
Check out my fanfiction!I really like the juxtaposition of the "Happy New Years!" sign and the ruined scenery. I'd like to keep that, if possible, but the current is definitely too hard to see the "ruined" part.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe ruined aspect is clearer in 5.2 (not to mention it has the better quality), but I think it would illustrate better if we can see the player actually arriving on scene.
An interface or weapon/tool/arm would suggest a character there.
I like 5.2. There's a bit of datedness with the year, and as mentioned, the juxtaposition of the celebratory words contra the ruined scenery.
Check out my fanfiction!Well, damn. Don't first-person games still sometimes give a third-person perspective during cutscenes though?
5.1 is pretty good.
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdEither in 5 are good, but I'd wanna see them at wiki size to make a full judgment.
Both are good but I like 5.2 a bit more than 5.1
Oh really when? But not this one. It has exactly three cutscenes the whole game, all first person.
Actually, I'm curious if somebody can produce an image of that area meeting Duck's criteria of having a held weapon on-screen imply a player.
Else, I'd be okay with either of 5.
Moon◊...I'm reminded of the "grabbing pizza and coming back to find everything on fire and everyone undergoing a mental breakdown" gif that's been floating about Tumblr...
It's from Community, the episode "Remedial Chaos Theory." I can't post a link to it because this account is too new to do that.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyToo new to post a link, but not too new to post in a forum? That's not right. You have to do this to post a link: [[URL]]
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Huh, I didn't know that. I just assumed.
Anyway, here◊'s a link to the image is thinking about.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyThat's hilarious. Happy Birthday?
It is what it is.Potentially funny, although I think the image is unclear because there's no focus on the guy being late, but also not this trope. Any of the suggested Bioshock ones work well. There's no need to show the player because the existence of the player isn't important to this trope (arguably their unimportance is important: they're a bystander to a story that's already mostly over).

If my opinion matters, I'm leaning towards Larkmarn's second image, as the contrast is slightly higher (for the better), and more debris and other destroyed scenery can be seen. The only reason I would have for choosing Larkmarn's first image is that one can spot a little more of the "WELCOME TO RAPTURE" text on the globe, but that isn't enough for me to warrant picking that particular image.

Clock is set.
So 5.1, 5.2, and 19 all have some support (personally, I like 5.2). Crowner?

Nominations for replacement images:
I want to start off by saying that I don't have a suggestion to replace the image. I went to Ask The Tropers about making this thread without a replacement image.
I think the image on the page simply looks like the results of a New Year's party in 1959 rather than someone looking into or discovering something about a tragedy. The image doesn't look like a tragedy has occurred at all.
I'm not very familiar with Image Pickin, but I assume that no image is better than one that doesn't illustrate the trope.
