Needs Help: Shotguns Are Just Better

There's no image for that page. Should we put an image? And if so, what image?

I mean, I'd like to see something that really hits home the fact that Shotguns are awesome.

I'm sure we can probably come up with something for this. Here's a coupla options from DOOM: 1◊, 2◊

Must this be limited to first-person shooters or does it work for third-person as well?

One of those gets a 404.

This is the image that comes to my mind when I hear the trope name.◊ (Smaller and variant versions are widely available - it's the default promo image for the movie. It shrinks down fine.) However, the trope is all about videogames, so I guess a pixellated FPS view down a shotgun barrel is mandatory.

The first Doom image is simple and effective.

I like the Doom image. Hits the point home.

I am kind of curious about if we could find a picture of the Spas-12 being awesome, as it's the Trope Codifier for that trope.

Can anyone find a pic of the TFC Normal Shotgun/Super Shotgun being awesome?

Suggestions are all decent, but I really want to see something that shows the spread. Just did a search for "shotgun blast." First result from real life◊ is really awesome. Second result◊ from whatever game this is is also pretty cool.

I can't see the shotgun in the second image.

It's the silvery thing in the hand of the guy on the left.

That's supposed to be a shotgun? It looks more like a handgun.

You don't hold a handgun that way. Though it still makes it less clear than what would be optimal.

Well, technically you don't hold a shotgun that way either...

For the Spas-12, which is pretty much the Trope Codifier for Shotguns Are Just Better, here's a pic◊ that I got from searching up "SPAS 12 muzzle flash."

Oh, and this.◊ It's pretty grainy though.

And to really hit home the fact that shotguns are great for fighting monsters, here's this◊ from Jurassic Park. (OK, so it didn't really help him against the raptors, but you know that the staff agrees with this trope when they often pack shotguns against dinosaurs.)

There are plenty of pictures around showing real-world or movie shotguns looking badass, but the actual text of the trope description makes it more or less entirely a videogame trope. So I really think that the picture needs to come from a videogame.

(Unless anyone wants to rewrite the trope to encompass shotguns being super-badass in other forms of fiction. There's probably a case for that, actually. But it'd be a bigger job, with a lot of data collection required.)

The first Doom screenshot is effective.

Although yeah, I still like the SPAS-12 image◊ from Fallout: New Vegas. ◊

I don't get how a screenshot shows off how awesome and inherently better than other weapons the shotgun is. DOOM has probably the best shotgun in gaming, a minute of playing it will tell you that but as an image you can't get that context. DOOM just might be pervasive enough to be ingrained in pop culture and stand without context but idk, opinions?

The main reason I picked the two DOOM shots was the appearance of a One-Hit Kill they give...none of the other images get the weapon's effectiveness across as clearly or cleanly to me.

I think the first Doom shot gives me the best impression of carnage. Plus, and this is purely my personal preference, I would rather see an oversized double barreled boomstick for this picture than a military shotgun. It just "feels" right. I think its because military shotguns get used mostly for breaching doors, then its back to the machine guns, but when somebody in a movie pulls out the boomstick? You know s**t's going down.

I kinda agree. The idea about shotguns being powerful comes from the classic ones. The military ones look closer to the automatic weapons they carry, and they don't carry the same connotations.

I don't understand why we are only showing pictures of shotguns themselves and not illustrating why they're superior.

Going with the video game only examples, why not a character that prefers shotguns to any other weapon for that very reason?

I don't really get any feeling of "superiority" from any of the Sarge pics. Actually, I recall the shotguns in Halo (at least the first one) were pretty awful. Okay, reading the trope page, that's evidently quite incorrect. Fair enough, it's been ages since I've played it.
