Technically Him isn't really Satan, so that may be why.

The Red Guy was actually supposed to be Satan in the pilot episode, but for the series they simply named him the Red Guy because the network didn't want to be seen as promoting Satanism.

[up]Still, Him's still basically a demon who does some really twisted stuff. How they let episodes like Speed Demon(I think that was the one with the Bad Future) and Knock It Off pass but not See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey because of minor details is baffling. I know that episode was later in the series, but the later seasons still had some crap-passing-through-radar moments in those seasons.

They didnt mean to censor those to not offend their own religious sensibilities. They meant to do that for OTHER PEOPLE'S religious sensibilities. You dont know how petty and crazy people can be, they can complain about that. Toonami once ran into this when a Slot machine had a Star Of David in it, people whined and threatened to sue.

How dare they use another religious relic, they should've used our religious iconic.

Obviously they mean to impose someone else's belief onto us, we are within our rights to sue, sue, sue!

Most right-wing fundamentalist Christians think that any mention of the Devil is a positive mention, no matter how bad a light he's put in.

Big companies don't want controversy, so thus they dubbed him the Red Guy and gave him a new name in every episode, which turned out for the better anyway.

I never saw the Red Guy as the devil when I was younger. I just saw him as an asshole. Now I see the correlation.

[up] Weird, as a kid I have always seen the Red Guy as A devil (not THE Devil, but a devil). It helps that I also saw the original pilot of Cow and Chicken on TV . . . . . the network's standards and practices were pretty relaxed back then now that I remember. Its actually incredible how they got away with such shit. Whether it be that gruff gym teacher in that dodgeball episode of Dexter's Lab dropping the C-Bomb (crap, not that other c bomb) or the amount of sexual inneuendos in Johnny Bravo (seriously, virgin sacrifice).

Crap was still on CN airlines for Regular Show and one episode of Adventure Time...

Apparently the word virgin by itself is bad...

Regular Show pushed the boundaries of acceptable language for daytime CN, except for the one time in the Justice League special "Starcrossed" when Green Lantern told the big bad to "Kiss My Ass," but Regular Show does it... regularly without it being key dramatic moments in what was supposed to be a series finale.

[up]x4 Of course for nowadays where said word isn't seen as profane as, say, shit. But back then it is not very common for kid shows to outright use content that is commonly used in more adult works of the time like The Simpsons. Especially when you consider the period between 2000 and 2009 where, while having its share of radar dodging moments and Total Drama (though that show was censored in the US), mostly have cartoon that avoid showing mature content to appeal to its younger demographic (or rather parent watchdogs who are afraid kids might be exposed to South Park level of contents). Hell, part of the reason why Courage got cancelled is due to a pseudo-lesbian couple appearing on screen; if Steven Universe was made at the time Courage aired it would of been cancelled very soon.

So while I agree that Cartoon Network now is using language like Cartoon Network then, there is a significant difference in impact for when they used it.

No, Courage got canceled because it had 52 episodes and most shows end at 52 episodes.

If they didn't cancel Cow And Chicken because of the lesbian biker gang, or Dexters Laboratory because of the gay Silver Surfer parody...

The Adventure Time episode "Breezy" also used the word "Virgin" (of course, that episode also had the infamous LSP/Finn scene).Has the word "sexy" ever shown up on any CN programming? I know it's not always used in sexual terms, but it would be kind of weird to hear it used.

[up][up] But they did banned said episodes and effectively never mentioned/reaired again.

Plus, I meant part of the reason for Courage cancellation not the definate reason. Also it's 65, not 52. 52 (which is like 2 season) only applies to Greg Wiseman shows that are too good to last (the Goliath Chronicles don't count).

EDIT: Okay so Gargoyales have 65 episodes under Wiseman direction. Not sure it that confirms my opinion that shows life expency is typically 65 or prove me wrong that 52 episodes = 2 seasons. But hey, at least I'm not wrong on Wiseman's shows only lasting 2 seasons (Goliath Chronicle ignored for obvious reasons).

[up] You got me. Can't think of any old CN shows that said sexy. Not even Johnny Bravo weirdly enough.

It was never a reason to begin with. I can recall seeing that episode on CN several times after it originally aired.

Practically every classic CN show ended after 52 episodes - or was originally supposed to then extended much longer, like Dexters Laboratory or Ed Edd N Eddy.

[up] Wait are we talking about Mask or the other two gay episode: if the former agree but if the later disagree as those are rare to appear again on tv.

So far most of the classic Cartoon Cartoon all hit their 65 episode run and beyond (with the exception of cartoons that failed to get a dedicated fanbase off of them lasting less than 52). So far the only cartoons to do the 52 deal instead of 65 and beyond are Courage and Cow & Chicken.

When talking about the Silver Spooner, it's worth mentioning it wasn't just a gay joke, it was gay joke based on a copyrighted character from a rival company, which adds an extra complicated layer on the whole issue. Even with the 'fair use' clause, it's extra awkwardness, and that was before Disney itself bought Marvel, with the Silver Surfer rights shared with FOX.

Disney lawyers are like the most fearsome thing ever, even if you are right and they are wrong. They'll still kick your ass somehow.

With that in mind, why the hell the Two Parter episode of Teen Titans Go didn't get pulled for its incredibly mean spirited joke on how useless of a hero Spider-Man is? Especially with Marvel being owned by the lawsuit happy company that is Disney.

For that matter, why the hell didn't that Silkie episode get pulled for that Ducktales theme parody? Even Family Guy have to fight tooth and nail to keep their Disney like song parody, yet this show got away with using it (and referencing the show).

Now that I think about it, MAD did a lot of parodies making fun of Disney and Marvel property while MAD itself is a product of Times Warner and DC. Why wasn't anybody sueing over this obvious defamation of properties?

. . . Or maybe nobody gave a shit and believe those shows aren't as well loved as Dexter's Laboratory; which I couldn't argue, so I answered my own question.
