It's a fun concept, but do you have more to build upon? Setting? Time frame? Plot?
Time Frame would be modern day. As far as setting and plot go, I was thinking of doing the typical "Magical Academy" thing but I worry that'd be a bit cliche... I mean, I have a basic history set up if that'd help at all.
Blue Pacific, signing off...I think setting is probably most important. If we want this to be a single grand quest, a slice of life or adventuring group first we need to figure out what kind of world it is.
So, genre. High Fantasy? Low Fantasy? Historical Fantasy? Gaslight Fantasy? Urban Fantasy? I can see this system working in any or all of these. Tech level? My personal preference would be late Medieval/early Renaissance, so cannon, printing presses, maybe muskets but still a place for swords, bows etc.
Of course this is just my own opinion. Anyone else feel free to throw yours in.
Oh, wasn't aware you had a timeframe and genre already in mind. My bad. But you were awfully vague.

Trump delenda estYeah, I kinda was. I'll admit, I'm never very good about pitching this sort of thing.
I was kinda thinking we could do a sort of "Band of adventurers" thing, to be honest. I already have a starting point for a hypothetical "Quest Chain" planned.
Also, after some contemplation, I'm not so sure about the "Modern Day" thing. I mean, at least not in a Next Sunday A.D. context. Maybe more of a "The modern day if Magitek were a thing?"
Edit: Also, I did sort of try this thing once, it didn't go as well. HOWEVER, now I am not a big stupid moron who has no idea how to do this sort of thing. Basically, I'm giving this another try.

Blue Pacific, signing off...This sounds quite interesting.
Additionally it is one of the few R Ps allowing for a Good-aligned Necromancer.
If this gets going, I'm in!

Well, I mean, as long as you're not laying waste to Massachusetts with your horde of risen zombie minions they don't particularly care. Also, they're basically the only people aside from Green Magic users who can actually truly resurrect a person, and they're generally more reliable about it to boot!
Blue Pacific, signing off...This does sound interesting.
ಠ_ಠSo I do seem to be receiving a decent amount of interest here. I'm not sure if I should maybe wait for more people or something, but this seems like a good sign so far.
Blue Pacific, signing off...So far you have four people expressing interest in only a couple of hours. I would suggest A: a short to medium synopsis of the universe including things like if there's a Masquerade or not and what races besides humans do or do not exist. and B a character sheet

Trump delenda estVery intetesting... A renaissance-esk time period could suit the theme of colour/art as magic ) since it was a time for the rising of great art and all).
Bows, swords, wtc. Were still in use vut more inventive technologies were beginning to come into availability and innovation was encouraged.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Yeah, I'll admit I'm not getting nearly as much interest as I had hoped for.
Well, as a basic rundown of the universe, it's what you could considering a typical Fantasy Kitchen Sink. Jabberwocks and chimeras roam the forests which are in turn ruled by the elves (who, in a shocking turn of events, AREN'T total dicks.), dragons run wild, centaurs roam the plains, etc. In this setting, most every vaguely intelligent living thing has the potential for magic within them. This magic is expressed through Colors. Red is Fire, Green is Healing and Plants, Brown is Rocks, Metal and Dirt, etc. Magic is channeled through Wands, with different materials used depending on Color. It'd take place in a renaissance-esque era where Magic is common. Electricity is mostly handled through magic, various wondrous technologies are commonplace, just general Magitek type stuff.
DISCLAIMER: IGNORE THE FIRST POST. IT IS DUMB AND WHEN I WROTE IT WHEN I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH OF A BEARING ON, WELL, ANYTHING. I WILL MOST LIKELY EDIT THE FIRST POST AT SOME POINT.
In this hypothetical RP, everyone would be part of a group of adventurers, the kind that typically go kill monsters for money. Every PC would be attuned to one of the magic sources (except for the Rainbow color) and there'd be cool adventure-type stuff going on.

Blue Pacific, signing off...Seems interesting. I'm thinking a summoner, although the kinds of summons to be used I'm not sure on.

Is now up to six people interested so I would say you're doing good. Will probably post a character tomorrow or day after. Am thinking Green but subject to change.
Trump delenda estWhat's the culture like here? Would using tarot cards (both in their supposed (but not real) fortune-telling use and as themes for summons) be acceptable?
Well, this is a culture where magic is perfectly acceptable. You'd still be using a wand as a channeling method, but using tarot cards and having tarot themed summons is a-okay.
Blue Pacific, signing off...You might want to put Race onto the character sheet unless we're all humans
Trump delenda estYknow, I deliberated over whether or not to put that on there. After your post, I have decided to add it.
Blue Pacific, signing off...Well, it seems pretty good to me in terms of setting so far. All it needs is a plot really

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”I was thinking of having a banshee with necromancy powers.
ಠ_ಠDarn, means we'll have to argue about Necromancy.
Should be fine, as long as you don't go full-on "Banshee's Wail is insta-death" or anything like that.
I do have a plot in mind, for reference.

Blue Pacific, signing off...I s thinking of playing a giantess/half-giant eho uses either red or gray.... definitely not a house-crushingly big giant though of course
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”I'm amused that the thread mentions Discworld when the whole concept of "colors of magic" and how you say it works immediately makes me think of Magic: The Gathering.
Actually, I didn't even think of that. Strange, considering I have a friend who tries to cram it down my throat all the time.
Blue Pacific, signing off...
So I kinda had an idea for a setting. Basically, take a Fantasy Kitchen Sink. Then, instead of Vancian magic or whatever you'd throw in there, base it entirely around a sort of "Color" system.
Basically, deep within every person is the potential for magic. Each person has a sort of "Color" they're associated with. Someone with Fire affinity may be Red. Someone with an Ice affinity may be blue. Someone with the power to summon things to fight for them may be Silver. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.
Basically, people can channel this through "Brushes", which WOULD be normal wands except for the fibers of various magical plants at the end which greatly resemble paint-brush thistles.
I'm still not entirely sure what the setting would be, or what the goal would be, but I figured I'd just throw the idea out there and see who might be interested.
Also, list of Colors.
Now, the thing about Gold is that it basically has access to all the weaker parts of the other colors. So, a full on Red wizard could snuff out a forest fire with a thought, or set that same forest on fire in the first place. Gold wizards could probably light a candle, or cook a steak with their mind.
Any thoughts?
