Rest in peace, Top Gear.... Best of luck to the new hosts, Hope they blow. Nothing compares to Jezza and the Gear Guys. (sounds like a cheesy 80s band, I know.)

What? They ruined the silent end credits for teh BBC America showing as well?

What a complete bunch of utter, utter, utter, utter, total, (err, something sweary but not scatological or totally offensive, hmm, okay, wankers.) That'll do, what a complete bunch of utter, utter, utter, utter, total wankers.

It's as if they assume the viewerbase for Top Gear and "Insert Title of Other Shitty Show here" are the same or something equally stupid.

When The Day of The Doctor first aired, They left the purely-awesome credits alone.

The airings that follow after the 50th anniversary just does the same thing like what happened to Top Gear. There's always Netflix?

The Bonkers British Cracker-jacks don't know forgiveness if it smacked them in the face. Should've they forgave Clarkson, None of this crap would never happen.

Funnily enough, a load of people who were going on about how there shouldn't be "one law for the rich and famous and one law for everyone else" immediately changed their tune once he was sacked because apparently the punishment wasn't severe enough.

Clarkson, Hammond and May sign for Amazon Video.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

Well I think it's safe to say BBC's half-assed version is doomed, lol.

[up]I don't like their chances, but wish them the best of luck if that's what enough viewers decide they like. For my part, though, I'm terribly grateful that I decided to get Prime a short while ago.

I got it mostly to save on shipping on my numerous orders recently. Now it looks like it was a good move.

I'm getting a Prime subscription because of this news. I don't think I'm going to be alone in that.

The Beeb's version is fubar before it even starts.

Honestly I'd say that Top Gear is simply going to go back to what it was from 1977 to 2001, that show managed pretty respectable rating though so I'm not sure if Top Gear will be dead.

TamH70 Since: Nov, 2011 Relationship Status: Faithful to 2D
#267: Aug 2nd 2015 at 8:29:17 AM

Respectable audience share isn't what the Beeb wants. That's what they had with Old!Top Gear, and that's why they cancelled it in the first place. They want the same numbers that they had with the Clarkson/May/Hammond era, or better. That they probably won't get it with their choice of front man hasn't sunk in to the gin swilling people in W 1 A yet, but it shouldn't take that long. I'm not saying the initial ratings for the new... thing aren't going to be good, but I don't see them maintaining that. Evans is a polarizing figure - a lot of people frankly despise him.

Top Gear as we knew it, is, frankly, dead. Unlike the last time, there's no Lazarus-like rise of the corpse to vibrant life but instead we're going to get a zombie. It might shuffle along for a while but the dogs and other vermin are going to eat it.

They canned the old version because they had a better idea, now they don't so what's to stop them going back to the old version?

Top Gear as people knew it from 2002 is dead, but the Top Gear that died in 2001 may well have just returned from the dead.

TamH70 Since: Nov, 2011 Relationship Status: Faithful to 2D

Because the old version wasn't anywhere near as entertaining, and had no international appeal whatsoever? I mean, none. I mentioned before that they reviewed dreck like the Montego and Maestro, didn't I?

There was nothing like the stuff you saw in post 2003 Top Gear (post Jason Dawes - I also mentioned before that his season is the only one that's never been on Dave, or maybe I forgot to do so) - and that's what made the show such a huge success.

To be fair I think the BBC is trying to pretend that never happened. To the point where "Budget Bond Car" is the only trace of it on the show's You Tube channel.

Wasn't the Budget Bond Car thing part of some DVD special?

I really can't tell over here, most of their DVD specials get aired as standalone extra long episodes.

They did do a "DIY Bond Car" as part of the Top Gear at the Movies DVD.

I'm talking about this though.

Signing with Amazon means the chances of their new show being titled "House of Cars" falls dramatically.

I still think assaulting a producer is past the point where good ratings saves you from the repercussions of bad behavior.
