Suggestion: Creepy Crows

Creepy Crows has just been launched. It is one of the replacements for Ravens and Crows.

This was the image for Ravens and Crows.

Anyone have a preference between these pictures, or suggestions for anything better?

We are looking for something that communicates scary, ominous, creepy or evil.

"The Curse " from dA is gorgeous, but I don't think it would make a good page image for a page about "Ravens/crows being creepy" because more of the focus is on the wolf than the raven.

How about Maleficent's right hand crow?

That's a link to the whole page of search results. Did you have a particular image in mind? I couldn't find a good closeup from the movie itself.

There's this one: but it's a grab from an animated .gif, and even I can see the artifacting.

I actually see JPEG artifacting in that GIF frame.

A GIS for Creepy Crow have some◊ good◊ results◊ as well.

Actually, I saved it as a .png. The original looked even worse to me after I did the grab. Here's a link to the .gif◊ — have at it.

No implication that you introduced the JPEG artifacting intended, and no need to have at the GIF; I spent some time on Disney Screencaps looking for a better-quality capture of the same frame. Ultimately found it here◊ (if that direct link doesn't work, it's on page 40).

There are also some pretty good ones of Maleficent and her crow on pages 5, 10, 11 and 42. The crow on its own appears on pages 25, 37, the lower half of 40, 43 and 44 (where it's ultimately turned to stone).

7.3's a raven, though.

7.1 and 7.2 are great. The Maleficent ones work, but not as well as those for me.

Ooooh. I didn't know about that site. Bookmarked. And Ravens are included. The more accurate name would be "Creepy Corvids" but too many people wouldn't know what a "corvid" is.

Which would make a raven a somewhat better image, as it illustrates how narrow the trope isn't.

How about something like this◊?

That is not JPG artifacting, it is because the GIF color mode is Indexed and it needs to be changed to RGB before resizing.

(Elaboration: GIF uses a limited palette of colors, which means smaller file sizes, but it also means it can't resample very well. Changing to RGB Color Mode means you have ~16m colors to use. PNG can be index-mode too.)

Blank crowner's hooked; not enough awake to fill right now.

Partially filled in. I didn't add in the suggestions in @9 because my internet is slow and the images aren't loading properly. I don't know which specific images are being suggested anyway, so I'll leave that to someone else.

The old Ravens and Crows pic should be re-uploaded for the Corvid Tropes page, I believe.
