Poor Image: Eldritch Starship

When I originally made the YKTTW for this trope I specifically pointed out that a ship like the Narada in the 2009 Star Trek movie really shouldn't count, because the only thing weird about it are your typical spikey tentacle blade things that every villains' spaceship has these days (even the last Trek movie before 2009 had an enemy ship with this). I was really hoping to provoke the imagination farther than that and I vehemently oppose the use of the Narada picture as the image on that page. The Narada, IF it even counts, is an extremely mild example. I don't care if expanded universe material says it has Borg tech or not. It deserves a mention in the examples, but I think we could find a more bizarre looking spaceship than yet another some big boring spikey bladed thing that falls into the spikey villain spaceship category, not Eldritch Starship.

And no this is not a hate post about the 2009 movie. I just don't think the Narada is suitable as an image for that page. The Narada is not what Eldritch Starship is about. The Narada is actually the kind of sci-fi vehicle that this article is about surpassing in weirdness. We need something weirder than the Narada. Seriously it doesn't take that much imagination to stick a bunch of CGI spikes together and call it weird. Weird-looking, maybe, but conceptually weird? No. Just villain-y. The Void Ship or the TARDIS from Doctor Who would make much better page images, for example, or any other non-Narada suggestion that accurately captures what the article is actually about (ships whose weirdness goes PAST aesthetics which dictate that a villain's spaceship must look aggressive).

Keep Until Better Image Suggested, I would say.

[up]I can't see what that's supposed to be.

Even if the current image (selected through this IP thread) is not really an example, it looks weird/omnious enough to appear as one.

Therefore, I would say "Keep Until Better Image Suggested"

I think last time I suggested Sovereign or Harbinger from Mass Effect.

But the Narada really fits the look of it more.

Keep it unless something better comes along

[up][up]But that isn't really a bad thing for an Eldritch trope.

3 is better than the current - much more eldritch looking than current.

Even a bog-standard Borg Cube would be a better pic than the Narada, IMO.

I'll do some research and try to find a good picture of the Voidship from Dr Who and some other of the more bizarre mentions in the examples list

There's got to be a picture of a spaceship out there that shows more imagination than big, bland and spiked. I don't mean to make this a personal crusade but spaceships like the Narada are everything I hate about computer generated imagery.

I can't see 3 well enough on my phone to adequately judge it right now.

@6: But that image doesn't even look like a starship. I first thought it was a planet, honestly

Big [tdown] to 3. I'm open to suggestions, but definitely not a pull.

Here's the Ship of Light from Battlestar Galactica, original flavor.

And a Heighliner from the Spacing Guild of Dune.

[up] That looks like Living Ship. This is gonna have a pretty lofty Image Links page. Might as well add the suggestions from the previous thread as well.

[up][up]What Rethkir said. Still, I think that picture is better than the current image in Living Ship because the current one simply looks like a squid-shaped ship and little indication that it's alive.

[up] I agree; I like the Hive Ship on Living Ship but the Chaos ship is a pretty good replacement. Honestly, I'm not really crazy about any of the suggested replacements for Eldritch Starship.
