In fairness, I wasn't referring to any martial arts acumen. All I saw was that the show was pointing out that he knew how to take a hit. So my mind went to two places—either he got in a lot of fights, and he didn't seem like a delinquent or the type who gets bullied, or he was abused, and his family life was implied to not be ideal. I had literally no other context. And yes, the possibility of actual martial arts training completely slipped my mind, though that may have been because he very handily lost a fight in the first episode. Obviously, my perceptions were skewed by my ignorance of the terminology used, a situation currently rectified.

Yeah, I felt that the translation was fairly sloppy at that part. Ukemi isn't about taking a hit properly, as I think it was put in the subs but about taking a fall properly.

The only way you'd catch what the characters meant was if you were listening to the spoken Japanese lines and caught the word. Juugo was also animated to fall in a manner consistent with Ukemi, but you wouldn't catch that either unless you knew about it.

The subs I watched got ukemi correct, so yeah.

I didn't know I terminology stuff, and I got 'martial arts training' from that.

Episode 3:

  • Tensai must double check and confirm everything. Even if the objective's obvious. That's her detective way!tongue
  • Nanana really is an interesting and awesome ghost. What other humiliating tests will she put Juugo through?tongue
  • Sky Ruin! Wait, I meant Sky Ruins.tongue
  • Nothing's impossible for Tensai, Ace Detective! You know, she's the kind of detective Ena should aspire to be.
  • "Aww yeah, I've always wanted this cane. Thank you for your efforts. Now, I'll just kindly backstab y'all and leave y'all high and dry. Later, suckers!" And thus, Isshin goes "Ha ha ha" all the way to the bank.tongue I wonder what he's after...
  • Juugo and Tensai have high blood pressure. Any other reason is irrelevant. Ultra-noted.waiitongue
  • I wonder what Daruku was dreaming about? Being pinched is nothing to him.tongue
  • ...Why'd they take Juugo's clothes?

Nanana's Collection is a nice assortment of treasures so far.cool

Episode 3. In...cy Wincy Spider...

Everyone's shocked at her question. Even Nana. But then, she has a tendency to ask what no one expects her to ask. From the blindingly obvious to the unexpectedly obscure.

I'm pretty sure lovers don't kick each other. Unless by agreement.

I like that she actually proves to be worthy of the title she claims for herself.

Now, guessing passwords like that is just Bat Deduction.

A crystal-like spider-web-like structure. And a spider-like robot which does spider-like things. It's cool-like.

Smart and perceptive, but not that physically inclined. That's why she sends Juugo to run. And Yuiga isn't quite that fast either. Though, to be fair, it's probably hard to run on that boingy surface.

But really, couldn't he have made a break for the chest immediately if he's fast enough to avoid a section being collapsed, since it's not an instant collapse?

Honestly, with Tensai and Juugo on his tail, I wouldn't bet on Yuiga.

The Suspension Bridge Effect is interesting. Though since she realises what's happening, or at least guesses it might, I'd think it would lower the actual effect. I kind of question why they have to hug each other, though, aside from being terribly afraid of heights. Still, cute. On both sides.

Okay, that's not a little abuse.

You know, just once I'd like to see a game get paused when the player turns her head away from the screen.

[up] Because the platform they're on became invisible? No wait, that's a terrible reason; there's enough space for them both to sit next to the damn chest. So yeah, probably because they're idiots/scared shitless of heights.

No, you don't get it. The place they could sit on was so small, and sloped. They're hugging each other to prevent one another from falling down.

Same as usual.... Wing it.

If you sit with one leg on each side, you're not going to fall off. And even if you have a skirt, you can do it, or you can sit normally. I mean, there's no problem sitting on a thin fence or branch without falling off. If anything, holding onto each other makes it easier to fall off, since then you can't use your hands to brace yourself as well.

Just gotta note, the scene was still great.

[up][up] I was thinking that that fairly large central platform is still there, just invisible, so it's possible to sit on the floor next to the chest.

If it's no longer there save for the part right under the chest, then I suppose sitting on the chest makes sense. Hugging, though...

I mean, the safest thing to do would probably have been to sit in the chest, assuming they had a second before the platform disappeared. But whatever.

Someone familiar with the novels pointed something that the anime apparently left out with regards to who Juugo contacted, though I suppose it's pretty obvious given the scene that followed.

Oh, and some people in the forums I frequent are annoyed at how Nanana seems to be so... neutral, with regards to how the Adventure Club works, and her actual treasures, especially how people can realistically get killed trying to find them. Nevermind the fact that said treasures could easily be used and abused by the less scrupulous...

And one more thing — if Nanana's been dead for ten years, then why is it then that one of her treasures is squirreled away in a tower that's barely six years old? Something doesn't quite add up here.

I've never really taken a ghost's disregard for human life as something of note. And the way she's presented, she loved getting into dangerous situations herself.

They mentioned the age discrepancy bit. Though with relation to the school.

I believe I read somewhere that one person expressed their dislike of Nanana because, as they put it, "She's a selfish brat who does little in the series except give plot, eat pudding, and beat up Juugo because male abuse is just sooo funny."
