Seems reasonable. I'm thinking of making my character a Tinker Bell style fairy and the Chief Engineer. Any objections to that?

Good idea.

The crew I'm using are a twin pilots who drones who operates the weapons on the heavy gunship. The gunship in question is a relic from a major war, using jury rigged parts to keep it alive for years.

Since we're going for the SCIENCE! 50's feel, I'd like to have a plane that mimics one of those old-fashioned UFO saucers. Maybe have propellers on the back and underneath to make it move faster.

Name: Anders „Tomboy“ Foster

Age: 20

History:
Anders was born to a career Navy Officer on the Island of Thule, who for always dreamed of having a son to follow his footsteps, to begin a proper dynasty to his name. A son to inherit his strength and gifts, and whose deeds and reputation would warm an old retired Admiral’s hearth in his last years.
And thus as he proudly took his designated heir from the nurse he looked upon a small hiccup in that plans. His newborn baby was a girl!

At first enraged, he then decided that something like biology was not to mettle into his grand plans, her father pretty much tried to ignore the fact of her gender and raised her as he would a boy, treating her like a boy, calling her a boy. Anders mother, a somewhat meek former clerical aide of her father, did quietly comply with his demand to do so.
But while his „son“ pretty much inherited a lot of his he approved of - strength of character, aggressiveness, talent for weapons and avionics and the ambition to develop them - Anders at some point began to notice that things were different about her. Finally, when she had her first period, her mother brought up enough courage to tell her the truth. When her father discovered this he was furious. Ultimately, he threatened Anders that he would kill her mother if she ever „betrayed“ him and their legacy.

With her mother a hostage to her good behavior, Anders played along with her fathers plans. At home, her father no longer bothered to keep up the pretense at least, allowing her mother to treat her as a girl where he could not see it. But to the outside world Anders was still the very pretty son of a rising navy captain.
When Anders was 16, she entered the Navy Academy, training to be a Pilot. She still kept up the charade, binding her chest and keeping her hair short to appear more male, while her father rigged the medical exams.

On the day of her graduation however, a letter arrived that changed everything. Her mother told Anders that she was to now do what she wanted, and not be chained by her fathers ambition and delusions of grandeur. By the time she would read the letter, her mother had already hanged herself and took away the only real leverage her father had. And so, one fine morning, Ensign Anders „Scion“ Foster took „his“ newly assigned airplane out to a routine patrol and never returned.

Appearance:
Anders is at 5’ 10“ somewhat taller then average, fair skinned with slightly shoulder long bright blonde hair and icy blue eyes in a slender and pretty face. Her figure is firmly curved, and as if in defiance to her fathers will always somewhat stressed, though without make-up.
She usually wears her pilot’s gear leather pants and boots with an partially unbuttoned, tight button down shirt under a leather jacket, leather gloves as well as a red scarf and fighter goggles in her hair.
On her thighs are a Navy issue semiautomatic sidearm as well as a large trench dagger on the opposite leg.

Personality:
Anders is a strange mix, sometimes. A lifetime of behaving like a male mixed in with some newly discovered femininity. In a lot of ways, she behaves more like a man first and a women later. This might include slugging whoever incurred her ire. At the same time she likes her newly found female side, having discovered the forbidden worlds of women (like women’s clothes) and the like and the ability to simply stop behaving like a man in things that she never liked, like having to act tough all the time.\\ That being said, she also likes some things inherently „male“ and continues to do them. This mix of male and female personality quirks has earned her the new call sign „Tomboy“.
While she is normally a somewhat hotheaded but generally agreeable person, her father is great red cloth to her, as well as her mother is a topic of sorrow for her. Second to that is only the fate of a fellow cadet of hers, who after a night of way too much drinking had become her first lover. As her father had him „transferred“ after finding out, she is anxious to find out the fate her mistake has brought upon him.
For the Navy, she has nothing but contempt, remembering the sway her father has used all her live to keep her on „his“ track, considering them nothing but lapdogs to people like her father.

Plane:
Anders plane is a „liberated“ Navy HA-1 „Bloodhawk“.
Using a thrust propeller and a rear-wing configuration as a Air Superiority Fighter and Interceptor. As such, it is very lightly armored but fiendishly maneuverable, climbs like a homesick angel and is among the fastest planes in the sky.
It is armed with 4 Air-to-Air Missile hardpoints as well as 4 nose mounted guns:

  • 2 .40 cal Machine Guns in the upper mounts
  • 2 .40 cal Lasers in the lower mounts.
Through its origin as a Navy Plane, it also possesses a "Booster", it short burst of extra speed.
Her personal plane is painted mostly in silver with icy blue set against it. The nose-art shows herself in a very skimpy two part swimsuit and a suggestive pose sitting atop the Plane’s name, „Father’s Nightmare“.

[down] I got told I could ^^

Ah sweet.

Name: Julius Nexus and Octavius Nexus ("Jules" and "Otto" respectively).

Age: Both 19

History: The Nexus Brothers are twin originated from the island city of Remus and sons of a cargo plane merchant, they inherited the business at the age of 16 when their father died from an illness and their mother disappeared from an airship accident. They do well as merchants until their lives turned upside down when they are captured by a notorious pirate fleet known as the Blackbone pirates. As captives, they would witness the cruelty towards their prisoners. Just when all hope of escaping was lost, an assault of mercenary pilot took on the pirates, giving the twins a chance to escape in a stolen heavy gunship. Seeing the heroics of these mercs, they were inspired to join them to learn the trade of being a hired gun. After a few years under the mercs' wing, they would go on their own ways to do independent work as a one-plane merc service.

Appearance: Click here to see their faces. For pilot gear, the gear they wear are full bodysuits with a fully concealed helmets with high-tech goggles tubes and wires to interface with a very crude HUD and to link with the plane's radio. Julius usually wears red while Octavius wears blue.

Personality: For Julius, he's a hothead who loves a challenge to his piloting skill. In contrast, Octavius is a calm, collected person who focuses on completing missions. What they share in common is the love of good food and lovely ladies. I will make up additional aspects to them as the RP progresses.

Plane: Their plane is a junked-up of a relic known as the BC-108 "Phantom", the first successful Heavy Gunship model used in the "Olympus Wars", converted light cargo planes into airship killers and ground attack weapon platforms. Compared to most planes, it's the size of a medium bomber with 4 thrust propellers on the wings. It performs well as a flying whale (read: slow and steady) and it can endure damage from intense gunfire. What makes it a heavy gunship is that the armaments are usually from ships and they tend to focus on one side. Usual configurations include a minigun, an autocannon, and a modified artillery cannon. In order to defend itself from smaller aircraft, Phantoms have miniguns located on the nose and tail, they can take down fighters but skilled pilots can avoid them thus it depends on fighter escort to counter them. As of now, BC-108s are rendered obsolete and the BC-270 "Wraiths" took their place as the modern heavy gunship.

The twin's personal Phantom, "Eternal Centurion", is a heavily modified model stolen from the Blackbone pirates in their escape from captivity. What's distinct from most Phantoms is the red and blue stripes with a shark face painted on the nose and tubing around the body. The Nexus Brothers have 8 drones crewing it with 4 manning the main armaments while the other 4 are there to be spare gunners or repairmen during mid-flight. Because the manufacturer has discontinued production of the Phantoms, the brothers would have to make due with jury rigged parts. It wouldn't be surprising if they use bits from old alarm clocks, car parts, and even knobs from a sink.

Name: Elihu Stubb

Age: 31

Gender: Male

Appearance: Short (5'4") and scruffy, with a stubby (no pun intended) beard patched around his lower face. Has ruffled light brown hair and dull blue eyes. His nose is crooked at the bridge which makes him look like he pissed off the wrong guy. Tends to wear a faded navy blue wool knit sweater, grey trousers and black hunter boots. Almost always wears a crimson beret tilted to the side. If he isn't smoking a pipe or cigar, something is seriously wrong!

Personality: Stubb is a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who prefers to lay back and smoke rather than plan ahead. A good-humored man, Stubb likes to mess with people to coax them into lightening up. He gets mixed results. It's hard to find Stubb in a sincerely serious mood, even in the face of death; this has lead some people to wonder if he's smoking something other than tobacco! Stubb also has some peculiar habits, such as his need to clean/smooth out everywhere he sits and his strangely passive/aggressive way of giving orders. Stubb seems to have three lovers in his life: naps smoking, and strawberries.

History: Stubb was born in a puny fishing village that composes half an island. He learned the sailing trade from his father, as had his father before him as had his father before him etc. By the time Stubb turned sixteen he was completely sick of the little rock, and almost equally sick of the sea. So he snuck onto the next cargo ship that sailed by. Unfortunately that cargo ship got raided, and the little stowaway was taken hostage. With no one rich/caring enough to pay his ransom, young Stubb was forced into service aboard the pirate carrier. Over the next few years he managed to befriend a handful of crewmembers, including several officers, and was eventually promoted to gunner in a two-man plane. He learned how to fly from his partner and bought a bird of his own when his service expired. Stubb will be joining this new crew as a fighter pilot.

Plane: Stubb's "Fried Egg" is a circular-shaped aircraft designed for maneuverability. The large propeller underneath the aluminum exterior (called the shell) lift and lower the craft while the smaller propeller on the shell's edge moves it in all other directions. The cockpit sits in a plastic bubble at the top of the shell, giving the pilot a full three-hundred sixty degree view of the sky. For weapons, the Fried Egg has twin laser cannons connected to a rail that encircles the upper shell, giving Stubb an incredibly wide firing range. Unfortunately, the craft's shape limits its speed and operating the propellers (let alone the propellers and gun) can be incredibly difficult for those unfamiliar with the design. Stubb has flown the Fried Egg plenty of times before and feels quite comfortable piloting it, but that could change if he gets distracted on the battlefield.

Is every one already a crew or are we going to start with every one being hired from a "Free Port"

Maybe we should have the top positions already filled, and let the regular schmoe pirates/pilots be hireable, so people can get a feel for their character before diving into the action.

Maybe it could be that the crew just had a devastating battle, probably with legal authorities, which they barely got out of, but killed most of them off, so they need new members, but some of us can start as a part. Or something like that.

Would any of the non-officers be a part of the skeleton crew, or would we all be joining at the start of the game?

EDIT: Eh, whatever. I'll just assume that my character doesn't start as a part of the crew:

  • Name: Silk Valley
  • History: Silk was born with eight siblings to a small cluster of fairies. Her families cluster lived a nomadic lifestyle, moving from town to town, trading with those in those towns and performing for those in those towns. Some in the cluster would steal and some would trade illegal goods, but not all. However, they none of them would turn upon others in the cluster to turn them in for such illegal activity. As such, she grew up learning to have little to no trust or respect for figures of authority, while gaining respect and trust for those within her cluster and learning loyalty to them. She had an enjoyable life with her cluster, learning to steal and to fight. But she wasn’t completely satisfied by it. Her life was fun. Her life was interesting. Her life was varied. But her life wasn’t an adventure, and she wanted an adventure. She wanted to be a swashbuckler, fighting on the high winds. So, when her cluster had stopped at a town, she declared that she was going to become a pirate. Her cluster was filled with pride at her courage and gave her their blessing to leave home, asking only that she writes to them, sometimes. And, so, she left her cluster, and sought out pirates to join.
  • Appearance: Silk stands about 20 centimeters tall with dragonfly looking wings stretching about 60 centimeters, tip to tip, held close to her body, though sticking out a bit, when at rest. She has large blue bug eyes similar to what a dragonfly would have on the sides of her face. She has two antennas protruding from where a human would have their forehead each starting at the edge of one of her eyes. Starting from the top of her head between her eyes is long, straight, and rigid blue hair reaching down about halfway down her back. She has a human-looking mouth. She has thin arms and her hands have fingers that stretch twice times as long as human hands proportionally shrunk to her size. She has a thin body with very pale skin with a very slight blue tint to it. Her legs are spindly and end with feet that end with three thin points, two going forward and to the sides and one going back. She typically wears baggy grey pants, a white shirt with a grey waistcoat on top. She wears a grey bandana around her neck. Around her waist she has a belt with a cutlass and a pistol, both made by fairies for fairies.
  • Personality: Silk is a romantic at her heart. She set out to have an adventure, and she has been doing her best to make it just that, and that warps how she sees the world. She doesn’t see an attack on a ship to be a routine mission to get stuff, she sees it as a glorious battle to seize loot for glory! Because of this, she is very brave and fierce, finding joy in danger and fighting with a grin on her face. She also is able to enjoy even menial tasks for, to her, they are integral parts of her adventure. However, despite her bravery and fierceness, she’s still realistic. She knows that, if she dies in battle, her adventure will be over, and she doesn’t want that. So she backs out of fights she thinks will kill her and doesn’t do stupid things in battle. With other people, she’s jovial and friendly, treating everyone like her friend and equal, when they aren’t in opposition to her and her group. She’s also intensely loyal. Once she gets close enough with a group, she’ll begin to view them as her second cluster, and treat them accordingly.
  • Skills: Silk is highly skilled with the cutlass, being able to fight toe to toe with people much larger than her. She is also a fast and nimble flier, being able to maneuver with ease, even while fighting. She has no real skill with piloting, though, and is mostly concerned with fighting with people in person than in a plane. She is skilled at boarding and fighting on airships, though she isn’t good at carrying loot. Despite her skills with the sword, she is physically weak, compared to humans, and relies more on her speed, nimbleness, and small size to slip past the defenses of others and avoid getting hit herself.

Current Non-Death-Pidgeon sheets are aproved~ No questions, Death hold on.

Okay, currently there is some conflict, I had intended to keep non-humans rather rare, but I have 1 approved, and 3 pending characters who are non-human as well.

This is getting to the point of conflicting, as such I want to ask via democracy how to approach this, multuplechoice options are laid out below.

  • Turn on the wildwasteland perknote
  • Justify the large non-human presence by saying outside of piracy there is no real work for them, this would also explain why so many are hostile very well.
  • Go through them stricternote
  • Other : Please suggest.

I'd say that second one. Also, consider making the people who want to play non-humans really consider just how much outsiders their characters are when they're forced to interact with normal folk and prejudicial people or other things that normal humans would take for granted. You did say it was going to be a more semi-serious sort of game, after all, let's let the players have some food for thought in between their biplane shootouts.
