I didn't consider that. I kind of wish Microsoft and Sony weren't so anti Mascot games then.
At least one of Sony's mascots is getting a movie and a new game this year(Ratchet & Clank).
Sly Cooper also has a movie in the works. Which leaves Jak as the lost member of the Sony Mascot Trio.

Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. There's also guys like Nathan Drake and Kratos. Not quite traditional mascots, but iconic to the brand nonetheless.
Nathan Drake is getting a movie. And new games. Hardly forgotten, that one.
*mutters something about Crash and Spyro*
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Hey now, Spyro still has Skylanders going strong!
...
*Mutters something about Spyro, Jak, Crash, etc.*
Hence the ellipses and "mutters something about Spyro."

Anywho, that Arkham Knight gameplay video exploded my head. Is L1 going to be the "Batmobile button?" How will that work?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. No, L1 is the "even the odds button". Likewise, square is the "fuck shit up button" .
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence....holy shit, he really does have missiles in the Batmobile.
"I JUST STUN THE BADGUYS I NEVER USE GUUUUUUNS"
Rubber missiles, too, apparently.
So Batman's still a total jerk. Got it.
Game looks great, but Batman's new Perpetual Frowner design feels off to me. It's not a natural looking scowl but something that he is straining to maintain.
Bats has a couple of things going for him.
mainly, everything Batman can do in his stories are things videogame developers have already done, and done well, before. we have games that did melee combat well, games that did stealth well, games that did open world well (about as well as you can do open world anyway but this is coming from someone who doesn't like open-world games that much to begin with so i'm biased), etc. you just have to give it to someone competent and passionate about batman and you'll get an at least decent game out of it, which was what happened when rocksteady got the license to do arkham asylum. when you get to other superheroes like superman it gets a little bit more difficult.
also, batman is just a popular character in general. up until the success of the marvel movieverse he was arguably the most popular superhero. since he prints money it's easy to get funding and talent for him.
He's still the most popular superhero. His last movie was disappointing, and it still made more money than every MCU film before and after, except for Iron Man 3 and The Avengers.
Yeah, well, "disappointing" is subjective. It's not like it was universally hated.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. One of the things Bats has going for him is that his ability set allows him to immerse himself in the city of Gotham and its threats in a way a lot of superheroes can't do so well - sure, stuff like glide-flying and the batmobile give him a lot more freedom to traverse as he wants, but the bulk of the gameplay is spend fighting within and through - and thus being a part of - the architecture of the city, even when outside. While you're much more powerful than the mooks, you still fight on their level - and with the right weapons or abilities they can rival the player's advantages.
Spider-Man is much the same way, which is why the gameplay mechanics for his games tend to be very tight.
I've always felt one of the main reasons Superman hasn't had a good game yet is actually something very simple: he can fly, freely. It just one thing, but because of the insane amounts of mobility and freedom that gives the player in relation to the game world it renders a lot of the things that work in a game like this either inconsequential or much less effective. On the other hand, trying to fix that by limiting Superman to the ground just makes the player feel cheated - because Superman should be able to fly.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Makes me think of Karl Urban's super-angry frown in Dredd.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.Rick Wayne is best Bruce Wayne.
I'm not sure I've said it yet, but I hope Anarky is in the game. Seeing as he's all about overthrowing the corruption in charge, he might see Scarecrow's plan as a bad thing that could have long-term good consequences.
Maybe he'd plan to uproot the villains and keep Gotham as an anarchist community?
@Known Unknown: So the solution to making a good Superman game is to make an adaptation of the original '30s comics (with his original powerset of "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound" and not much else) or of Smallville (where Clark didn't fly until the final episode)?

I'd love to see Anarky reappear, though I doesn't look like it - I figure we would've heard about it by now if he was.
The big thing I thought would be cool to see done with him would be to, should other characters in the Bat-Family be playable, have him be in a Robin arc and reference the story in Red Robin with The General, maybe by having General and Anarky's groups involved in some kind of a gang war.
They could also do the "is Anarky the Joker's son?" thing from the 90's for funsies. Maybe it's a rumor that Anarky, for the sake of it spreading his name around, doesn't object to. But then Harley finds out...
But yeah, I think by now its safe to say he's not in the main game. He could be in some upcoming DLC, though.

The wrist is a joint. A broken arm is rather inconsequential. A wrist will very likely remind you for a very long time that it had been fractured before.
