I still have a working copy of Age of Mythology. I love playing it, it's always fun. I usually play as the Norse.

I prefer the Greeks myself. I also loved playing around with the level editor, though again the lack of any ability to select every unit at once annoyed me.

I'm trying to remember the online Meta for Age of Mythology. I remember Isis was well liked in Multiplayer because of her ability to get resources fast, Loki was almost default for online Norris because of his Hersirs ability to random summon Myth units, Oranos was liked because his sky towers were great for ganking, and I don't remember who the Greeks choose the most.

[up]I don't know who the most picked was, but I'm guessing Poseidon was the least-picked, as out of the nine vanilla Major Gods, he is the ONLY one without any method of healing on his tech tree.

Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great

Neat. I just hope the achievements aren't quite as ridiculous in scope as AOE 2 HD's were.

Wow, cool!

A while ago I completed the AOM campaign in Titan difficulty...wow was that hard! I'd done it in Hard mode previously but the tactics totally change when jumping up to Titan. Basically, turtling does not work, at all. You need to be ultra-aggressive at all times and win battles by force rather than outlasting the enemy. Because you can't outlast the enemy. They have more troops, more resources and they hit faster and harder than you do.

The level when I first realised what I had to do was the early one where you start with no gold so have to take over Trojan mines. There's a long passage that leads to an open area, through which Troy passes with trade donkeys to an allied city. I realised quickly that I had to immediately take control of that pass if I was to have any chance, massacring the donkeys to cut their funds - and I had to do this before securing my own source of funds lest I be overwhelmed, as otherwise I'd never be able to push back as far as the pass.

The hardest level I found was probably the one to cut down the Tamarisk Tree, as again you start with no gold, it's all ridiculously well defended and the Mummies only go after you, not Gagarensis. Again, I had to somehow be aggressive and destroy one of the Mummy temples early to take them out and get me some gold in the area.

The other seriously hard but ridiculously fun one was in the Norse campaign, to take over the dwarven forge. I actually managed to win this by annihilation - I didn't take over the forge until I'd wiped the giants off the map entirely. Considering they spam Fire Giants, spawn them instantly and have huge numbers, that took a long time. The only advantage the player has is that the enemy can't rebuild their buildings as they have neither villagers nor Ulfsarks. So it becomes a battle of attrition - sacrificing nearly your population cap at a time in order to take out one or two temples/hill forts, then rebuilding, and repeating until they're all gone.

I also admittedly cheesed a couple of levels, namely the one where you have to defend for ages before Odysseus arrives to rescue you. See, if you don't build a town centre, the timer doesn't start. Meaning I was able to max out every upgrade I could in the Dwarven Forge (all of them since with Thor they're not age-restricted, including the bonus ones), all the resource upgrades, and stockpile a metric fuckton of resources through farming and gold-mining. I could also get a whole load of walls up everywhere ready for the upgrades. Soon as I got the town centre up, I was able to blast through the remaining upgrades and get my army fixed up in time.

Sadly, despite many subsequent attemps, I could not even finish the first mission of the expansion pack on Titans difficulty. I don't know how, given all I managed to do above, but I just couldn't hold off the enemy attacks long enough to counter attack.

I already have the Expanded Edition but I'll definitely be getting that Chinese expansion. Can you imagine minotaurs going toe-to-toe with oni?

I'm gonna have to be that guy and say that oni are a Japanese myth.

But did they explicitly announce it would be Chinese and Chinese only?
