People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.

To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.)

This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

This one's a shock to everyone. Soundgarden is actually touring right now.

Wow. Cornell had just performed a concert last night with Soundgarden, and were gonna perform one tomorrow. R.I.P to one of the greats of grunge.
It's really eerie that the last song they performed was a refrain from Led Zeppelin's "In My Time Of Dying".

Roger Ailes, founder and former chairman of FOX News, has passed away at 77.
I just found out about both Chris Cornell and Roger Ailes, so I'm feeling very conflicting emotions right now...
RIP Chris. 
It's weird that he died on the same day it was announced Roger Ailes died.
Cornell's wife and lawyer say that Ativan, a prescription drug meant for treating anxiety disorders, may have contributed to his death. They also challenged the idea that this was a straight up suicide by saying he may not have done so by his own will, and that other drugs might have played a factor into it.
