I agree with lala. Giving the folders a blue background like before would make them more distinct and easier to see. It would also make the change feel slightly less major and thus easier to adapt to.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! It's not an appealing change, the folder pics feel oversized and the lack of colour isn't great for visual navigation.

Background color added.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI think the blue's a little too dark.
Just curious, what's wrong with the folders we have now?
The Protomen enhanced my life. That's much better, thank you!
I've nothing more to say, other than I much prefer how it is on the demo page now.

"Did you expect somebody else?"What is wrong with the current folders is that when there are many, you need to scroll down when using a phone. Also, the wasted space on the right doesn't look good.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat, and the color kinda sux. That violet-ish hue doesn't go with the other site colors at all.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyIt's the color for the bar above the post icons and the 'this entry is checked out by x' bar...
I think it's a pretty shade of violet that goes well with the yellow folder icon.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I think this is the best site change I've seen in years. Its convenient, tidy, increases functionality on phones and looks modern. The old style looks a bit like something you might see rendered on Windows XP.
I have to say that it looks kind of cluttered on my PC monitor, since you now have to read side-to-side AND up and down, rather than just running one's finger down the proverbial page. But that may just be a speed reader gripe, so oh well. First world problems and all. And I do agree that it's a vast improvement when viewing the page on my phone. So in lieu of a dedicated mobile site, I'll take it.
That said, the blue could be a little less saturated. Right now, the eye gets fooled since the folders are the same colour as the buttons on the toolbar.
Edited for clarification.

I already miss the header colours.. I'll live I'm sure but it's getting there, I kinda liked the blue we had.
I'm running this on Windows XP :(

The Protomen enhanced my life.@La La Sorry! it's not the first time that I've forgotten that no one else but me seems to be using Windows 8 But the original format does look kind of old fashioned.
I'd like better if the folder icon and the background weren't both blue. Manilla for the icon would likely obviate the need for the white square around the icon also, simplifying the design. (And since Manilla is a yellowish color, it will contrast perfectly with blue.)
Also, the blue itself is a bit dark for black text.

Eh...honestly, I prefer how it is now, if only because it looks more organized that way. It just looks like a mess having it all side-by-side, kind of like just a random word-salad text dump. I really don't like how it looks at all. I'm honestly not sure why you felt the need to redo how the folders are, since they seem perfectly organized as they are. Just seems like change for the sake of change here.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Nice! Inline folders are much easier to view on my Kindle Fire, and it makes use of all that empty space to the right.
Oh, and @lala I'm using XP too. Wish I could upgrade to 7 (or at least Vista) but I'm saddled with the world's worst PC ATM and my only other option is to borrow my Mom's 7 laptop, which I don't like doing because so many other people use it.
I like these new folders. Right now, on my laptop with its tiny screen, the new format makes it much easier to take in all the folders at a glance, putting it onto a single screen. Looking at the current folderization, it takes up at least twice as much vertical space.
The way the work is nice. Though not really a fan of the blue folder in white square on (same) blue background look. Mostly it's the white square, makes it look messy.
I like it, but the white square behind the icon makes it look like I accidentally selected the whole page.
I like the design's direction, but I have a few nitpicks.
- The background of the folder icons could be transparent. Those white squares behind them look bad.
- The open/close all folders button does not look good with that yellow icon and outline.
If the folders' light violet color is going to be changed, does this mean that stuff such as headers and indexes will also change color?

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."I can't say I'm thrilled about this change. The new icons look bad with that white background and get pixelated badly on my phone and the "tab" look is inconsistent with everything else on the page.
Also, the existing light violet is all over the place, such as most of the sidebar and the index bar.

Nice! I like the fact that they wrap within the page. they're now easier to close too so you can have only one open at a time.
this is convenience at its finest.
the folder icon just needs a transparent png/gif version.
also, minor design nitpick. why not take a page on how firefox/chrome makes their tabs? as in instead of color, just use a shape to make them look more like a tabbed folder.
Is dast der Zerstorer? Odar die Schopfer?Maybe a frame round the folders so they better match the foldercontrol and the buttons? Mockup◊ showing both with and without the frame.
The frame at least helps them fit in with other things on the page.
I think it would look better if it used the blue on the folders we have now. Maybe try that and see how it looks?
