That's me!
People seem to be seriously blowing it out of proportion. Its not exactly the worst thing to happen. I mean, the basic architecture is still the same as Windows 7, except hitting the Windows key brings you to a tiled interface. Which is pretty much the same as the old start menu except full-screen and with colours.
I enjoy Windows 8.1. It works well with my touchscreen PC, and anything I can do in Windows 7, I can do here just as well. I do like the boot times, though. I've had this PC for a few months, and it still takes about 36 seconds to get from the BIOS screen to my lockscreen, like it did when I first got it, in comparison to the Windows 7 PC I had before, which got slower as time went on.
I use a shittone of apps, and I'm okay with that. I'm okay with all this.
Don't forget that when Microsoft introduced the Start menu in the first place, people were behaving exactly the same way as they are now (at least, that's what my dad tells me).
Over time, people will get used to it. If you really don't want the Start screen, then just download one from the Internet. That'll stop your bickering.
Basically Windows 7 with a Start screen instead of a menu (and optional full-screen IE). One isn't really better than the other. Most of the people who are complaining about Win 8 seem to be of the They Changed It, Now It Sucks! crowd to me.
I can understand not liking it if your computer is not touchscreen. But with a touchscreen laptop, it works flawlessly. Mostly. That app switching when you move the mouse to the right is annoying.
A knight in shining armor is a man who has never had his metal truly tested.^^ To be fair, that crowd is who mostly buys PC's. PC sales have plummeted since Windows 8 came about and Microsoft is in a serious hurry to push Windows 9 instead of trying to salvage 8.
It's the ME/Vista tragedy all over again.

Honestly, I can't think of anything Windows 8 does differently aside from the new menu, which as we all know by know is pretty awful. Why can't I search programs? Why can't access the control panel to change my settings?

That's easy.
Hit Windows (so you go to the Start screen), start typing "Control Panel" and it'll pop up! Hey presto!
Or, go to the Desktop, hit Win + I (or Charms —> Settings), and click/tap Control Panel.
Zennistrad be patient, the thread for everything wrong with Windows Eight will come, but it is not here yet.
Pretty much the only thing I particularly like is the lock screen feature. Everything else I don't really have any strong feelings towards or I don't like.
I have no strong feelings for or against Windows 8 now that I have a program that replaces the start screen with something actually usable to me.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I think Windows 7 is the best version of Windows.
Windows 8 had no discernible improvements on 7 and has many features I don't like.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI know you were probably just joking, but I wanted to head off anyone that might seriously consider doing it.

"Yup. That tasted purple."I wasn't too keen on upgrading to 8 from Vista, but I don't really have any problems with it that I didn't already have with 7.
I like Windows "Phone" Eight. Which is basically the same as the desktop version but on a system that was designed from the ground up to be used with it. Which the desktop version never seemed to be. And in the words of Weird Al's "Gump" - "That is all I have to say about that!"
I've spent more time than I care to admit trying to get my Windows Media player to...do anything before giving in and just giving the so called replacement "app" a chance (which ensures I am going to be spending a little more time trying to get Media player to work) But I'm not posting to elaborate, debate, complain or even ask for help (there will be other threads for that) I just want to know who likes Windows eight. If you want to say why that is okay to but you don't have to.
Everything has fans on TV tropes after all. So lets celebrate windows eight with people who like it, or at least like something about it.
