More like he's a "Well Done, Son" Guy for Wells.

God, Wells is such a smug SOB. There is almost not a single scene where he isn't smiling, smirking, or had a face that looks almost like a smile.

I can see why Rathaway is the prodigal son: they're both dicks.

Barry's Undying Loyalty to Wells is hilarious.

Even now, calling out Wells for the "lie" (which he's probably had in store just in case something like this happened), he's still more lecturing him about making it up to Cisco and Caitlin, but is implicitly coming from a perspective that doesn't seem so bothered by the actual lie itself.

WELLS HAS SUPERSPEED!

Ow ow ow ow OW. Seeiously, OW. Also, NO, NOT CISCO!

Seriously though, Haytham's a dick.

Huh, so Wells is legitimately paralyzed and can only do this walking thing temporarily it seems. I wonder how or why.

So Wells can walk but not if he uses his powers for so long. That is why he needs the wheelchair.

So was Hartley this much of a bastard when he first showed up all those years ago?

I'm not sure I liked Hartley as a villain - mostly because they kept establishing him as things without actually developing him. His motive is, supposedly, revenge on Wells for gambling with people's lives and personally snubbing him, but everything about his origin is seen from the perspective of others - which is of him being a dick. Except for that moment where he's actually concerned about human's lives, which leads to Wells cutting him off, which leads to him getting back at Wells for his lack of concern by... throwing innocent people off of a dam. Hrm...

Then there's his enmity with Cisco. Much like the thing with Plastique, this is only really developed based off of what it does to Cisco, not on Hartley's side at all. We can assume he was looking for approval from Wells, was jealous of Cisco and Caitlin, and was crushed when Wells betrayed him, but the only thing we ever actively get on jackass who lacked "humanity" and was bitter against Wells. He lacks personality. Which is bad, since he's apparently supposed to be a recurrer.

Lastly, there's his abilities. For the first time ever, the show goes out of its way to establish that Hartley has basically no threat to the Flash at all unless he finds an Instant-Win Condition. Which is, again, bad, since he's apparently supposed to be a recurrer.

I'd call him the weakest antagonist so far, though the episode itself isn't weak - mostly because Hartley's used more as a means to bring us some character moments than a character himself (again, much like Plastique).

On a completely different note, despite being unconnected to them, I can't help but think Hartley's stunt was a little inspired by what Cold and Heatwave did.

Like he saw it and incorporated a more public display into his plans because he figured it would be useful.

I think his problem with Cisco is more of a "professional vs unprofessional genius" thing. Cisco knows his stuff, but doesn't act like it.

Pied Piper's a hero in the comics right? Be interesting to see if that comes over to the show. And I hate to say this, but Wells saying he was chilly after Caitlin walked in did get a chuckle and notice out of me.

Had to edit. Slightly didn't make sense before.

The name Pied Piper doesn't work without the flute. He's just some guy with sound gloves.

[up][up]Because his shirt is totally inaccurate. Han shot period. There were no firsts or seconds.

[up] You're right, this'll never work. The writers were not on their villain A-game today.

So why did Barry take the Hartley to STAR Labs? I thought they only did that fro metahuman criminals.

I hope they're not starting to forget that the compound is only there for specific kinds of villains, rather than just "the place where our heroes put their villains." Cold and Heatwave were established from the beginning as a police problem that became a serious problem for the Flash, so the police were always involved, but when you're introducing a new supervillain every week it's an easy mistake to make to just throw them all in the same place (both in adaptations and even in the comics themselves, Batman writers have been making the same mistake for decades.

The compound in general is a really weird idea, especially since the police don't actually know about it. Now that the Flash is becoming a public figure, you'd think STAR Labs would be officially be collaborating with the police on the metahuman problem, but nope: they still have their private cell block where they personally (and apparently still secretly) intern people indefinitely.

Okay, Iris kind of IS coming off as a entitled millennial. She has no tangible journalistic experience, gets a job on the newspaper based on her Flash blog, and then is surprised that her hero treats her like an upjumped amateur rather than a brilliant snowflake. I am frankly amazed that she should be surprised that she would have to prove herself.

She's not really being given a chance to prove herself. She offers a suggestion and when asked an unrelated question pertaining to the Flash and the moment she says she doesn't all interest is lost.

When your supervisor insists upon treating you like a waste of time and your boss expects you to be Lois Lane while ignoring any other worth you might have, it's not unusual to be a bit upset.

Anyway, did they ever say whether Hartley knew that Barry was the Flash? Given both his listening in on their radio conversations and the info he took from STAR Labs, he should know - or at least have a rough idea - but he only ever refers to him as The Flash.
