The lunge is his most deadly move due to the awkward timing of hit. It's like you either dodge too early or too late.
Fume Knight is the guy giving me hell though.
I soooo called the blue smelter swap though. At least it isn't two of them.
I've been playing the DLC for about 5 hours now. It took me about 3.5 hours until I found the Fume Knight. Then I died about 10 times to him and went back to exploring the other areas. I think I've found all the Ashen Idols, since I've used all the Smelter Wedges I've found, but nothing seems to have happened.
"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."I know you one of Nadia's fragments from a boss and that there's 11 wedges in all.
I finally dealt with smelter demon vanilla on this file and he went down like a chump, done with duel caestus too. I wonder how much worse his bro is?
Also, which do you prefer, the 2nd DLC tower or Shulva? Personally I like Shulva more.

I prefer Brume Tower. It starts off fairly linear but once you use the Scorching Iron Scepter it completely transforms the level. I love the vertical level design with all the lifts and secret floors. Shulva had some of this too but it kind of stopped after the Sanctum City section. It's also a fair bit shorter than Brume (still haven't beaten old Fumey but it's still taken me longer than the whole of the Sunken King).
Incidentally, if you wear Velstadt's helm he gets all pissed off at you and instantly turns into his second form.

"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."Any Velstadt armour piece will do. Also, Raime's set hilariously looks like the Black Knight.

FINALLY beat Fume Knight aka Raime. Wow what a fight, one of the hardest bosses in the game. When he gets mad he just does so much damage it leaves you almost no room for error. More than once I was just one hit away but died because I got greedy trying to outank him and just couldn't.
It helped going through Shulva some to get flynn's ring and the ring of blades +1 made my damage output seemed like it actually mattered this time which was cool.
On his first phase, try avoiding rolling to his short sword side since he attacks more quickly with it. As a stamina(which is important this fight) conserver, note that you only have to roll dodge the first two swipes as the lunge will usually miss so long as you're strafing right. On his second phase, learning how to dodge his unblockable horizontal is key(simply roll to your left as it's coming, just don't roll too late) as it leaves him most open. The Ao E can be avoided by rolling back twice then rolling forward through the fireballs(or gap if you're far enough) which usually has him open. To be honest he's actually harder close up and you only want to be close when you know he's open. Also watch out for his behind counter when powered up, it's easily one of his deadliest moves and will ruin your high.
He's kind of like Artorias + smelter demon in his second phase.
I got to Sir Alonne and the walk to him isn't as annoying as I thought it would be. His attack rhythm is really odd though so it'll take getting used to him.
Fume is... He is one of the cheapest and unfun bosses I have ever fought. He feels like everything wrong with the Knight Boss archetype all rolled into one.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...So the bosses in the DLC are seriously all just reskins?

"I thought Djent was just a band" -Physical StaminaNo, not at all. I haven't got to Sir Alonne yet, but the Fume Knight is certainly not a reskin. He has an interesting fighting style with an ultra greatsword in one hand and a straight sword in the other.
"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."The blue Smelter Demon is more than a re-skin, its horns are different, its armour is more ornate, and it gains one explosion move. Also, the Flaming Sword is now MUCH longer.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainThe timing on its swings is also slightly different to screw over the people who are used to the original Smelty. And you can't tank him with a Gyrm Greatshield because he does magic damage instead of fire.
Edit: Finally took down the Fume Knight after about 40 tries. Now it's onto the corridor of endless Alonne Knights.

"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."And he has a ranged attack
So in hindsight, not a reused Smelter, but a new Smelter.
still smelter though
Smelter 2: Smelt Harder?
Oh really when?Smelter Demon with a ranged attack? Wow.
it's very predictable, though. it triggers when he does his overhead slash, and his sword is on fire
Smelter already had that before, though.
They call it the Rumour Mill because every time one specific guy posts I definitely feel cards going from my library to my graveyardwas too busy getting my ass kicked to notice, i guess
Smelter Demon gets it's power from a souped up Chaos Ember. Blue Smelter Demon gets it's power from a souped up Enchanted Ember.
Does OG Smelter have the slow slash? I fought Bluesmelter yesterday(took me a couple of tries although the first attempt I nearly beat him) and that slow slash really threw me off whereas I don't remember the other one having it and thus being much easier because of it.
Also when I fought bluesmelter one time he completely skipped his flame on! phase and went straight for the flaming sword one. Didn't know he could do that and it only happened once.
Admittedly he wasn't all THAT bad, Fume knight was harder and my losses to Smelter Blue were due to carelessness and mistiming since I kept treating him like the OG Smelter.
Fume Knight unfair and cheap though? Dude wat? He's probably one of the best knight bosses in Souls yet and is pretty fair in his ass kicking, just you know, challenging. Like what's wrong with him exactly? No really, go on. His flame sword does do an obscene amount of damage I guess but he gives you breathing room to heal and it's not exactly super hard to avoid.
Elana is still the hardest DLC boss IMO. She's probably one of the hardest in the entire Souls franchise.

is she harder then manus
I never beat Manus(although much of Manus' difficulty is his cheapish magic attack) but when I beat Elana it was because I got lucky. Also she can't be cheese-killed like him so maybe. I've seen some people claim Artorias is harder than Manus though so YMMV.
She's definitely harder than Artorias and O&S solo especially if she keeps summoning the Big V.
the silver pendant makes manus so much easier
which is why i don't use it
I used it and still get hit a lot of the time by his magic because the timing is weird. I don't like Manus really.
I don't get why smelter demon is considered so bad, yes his immolation aura is bullshit, but all of his attacks are telegraphed, and his heeeeyaaa attack is also telegraphed, even if it does only fire off half the time.
