After seeing that Batman comic a few days ago and the subsequent fan theories of what's going in Batman's mind, I'll put my take on it:

Anger is the head emotion of Batman ever since that fateful day when Bruce lost his parents. He's always angry about losing his parents and direct his vengeance and rage towards the criminals he deemed responsible for taking them away. And as such, he was the one who planted the idea that Bruce should become a vigilante and spend the rest of his life warring on all criminals.

Sadness would be second-in-command, always brooding over the loss of Thomas and Martha Wayne. She clearly misses them, and goes along with Anger's idea of becoming a bat to fight crime if only to spare others from suffering the same pain as Bruce. This however causes her to have tendency to push others away from Batman himself.

Disgust would also be second-in-command (possibly even be co-heads with Anger), trying to keep Batman at his prime during his crimefighting. She felt that Bruce's dead parents could have been prevented and thus shows contempt to virtually everything from criminals to the police force to even Batman's sidekicks and allies. She believes that Batman should never ever stray from the path of righteous and crimefighting, which why she enforces Batman's No-Kill Policy (and no usage of guns) as well as disapproving Batman's relationship with Catwoman.

Fear, contrary to what many people says, isn't banished from Batman's mind for being weak or useless. While he doesn't have the same influence or control as Disgust, Anger, and Sadness, he actually serves a vital and important role for Batman's mind. Since he's always paranoid of everything, Fear is charge of calculating every single possibility and outcome that Batman might face during his crimefighting, and then figure out a way to prepare and counteract for these situations. This is why Batman's Crazy-Prepared for everything.

And for Joy, well she finds herself being constrained and limited by the other emotions. Every since Bruce's parents died and Anger and Sadness took over, Joy has been trying to bring happiness to Bruce's life one way or another. Whether it is pursing a relationship with Selina Kyle, making wisecracking jokes, being friends with children and superheroes, helping people or simply doing good through billionaire Bruce Wayne, Joy will do everything she can to make Bruce happy. The problem is that Anger, Disgust, Fear finds Joy to be distracting for Batman's crimefighting career for various reasons, and often overrule her suggestions. Sadness recognize what Joy is trying to do, but believes that no amount of happiness could fill the hole left by the loss of Bruce's parents and that it could easily be taken away. Nevertheless, she always take Joy with her when dealing with people who have suffer losses similar to Batman's.

Well, looks like this is another How It Should've Ended where the changed ending is actually explicitly worse than the real one. I feel like that kinda drifts away from "What if these movies had more sensible endings?" to "What if these movies had randomly different endings?"

I haven't watched a HISOE in a long time. I take it I haven't been missing much.

I'll say this, I was thinking the exact same thing about sending the core memories back up that way when I was watching the movie. Didn't quite understand why they didn't just ship 'em back up like it was the gum commercial, beyond "for the sake of the plot."

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

It's possible that Joy didn't want Anger, Fear, and Disgust to touch the core memories because she was afraid they might alter them the way Sadness would.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

I thought that the core memories wouldn't work properly unless Joy was actually in the headquarters.

Maybe the tubes were also damaged by the time that Riley decided to run away - it's difficult to think straight and recall helpful memories when you're angry and/or upset.

I do have to admit, the tower of imaginary boyfriends was rather weak because the real charm of the movie was making the metaphysical real. Emotions are control center characters, long term memory is an archive and dreams have a production studio. The tower was strictly a visual sight gag and had no metaphysical connection.

And HISHE was never about bad movies, it was about plot holes or goofy alternatives in popular movies. They have their hit and miss like any youtube channel, the Inside Out video did have the ingenious "down the rabbit hole" moment with suggesting Joy had her own emotions.

Except nearly everyone who's thought about this movie for more than two seconds has wondered that, so it's not exactly an original thing here.

Now, if they looked at Superman's and Batman's emotions at the Supercafe...

Yeah, I made the "emotions have their own emotions" joke in this thread ages ago.

I kinda think HISHE has gotten more concerned with churning out videos for whatever popular movie most recently hit theaters than with making funny and insightful observations.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Didn't say the idea was original, but the characters themselves bringing it up and recognizing the Mind Screw was funny.

And seriously, the earliest videos for HISHE were for big name movies Star Wars, The Matrix, Men In Black, Superman, Willy Wonka... most of them being "the plot would end in five seconds" (destroying the gas giant in front of the Rebel base) or the "funny alternate scenario" (Bill & Ted showing up in The Matrix) variety. Like many things they started capitalizing on what was popular, but it's not exactly subject matter drift. The Nostalgia Critic had to migrate to newer and less obscure movies because he ran out of the older, obscure, kid oriented movies long ago (the original targets movies and tv shows he vaguely remembered as a kid, hence the nostalgia of the critic).

It wasn't the worst HISHE (for the most part I think they've improved substantially since I wrote my review) but that animation sure was ugly. The Toy Story 3 one looked nicer. Did they switch animators or something?

I agree that the animation was weirdly ugly. I suspect they had a different artist for this one.

That Bing Bong song at the end was a legitimate Ear Worm, though. I'm still humming it. Is it a parody of something I don't know about?

I was thinking more of an Office AU(Not like the show The Office. More like an office that the emotions work at).

[up]Agreed.

So that's just the animation style they went with. I doubt they have even a smidge of the same budget and resources that Pixar does! This is a parody. What do you expect!?

Yeah, I've seen better HISHE too, but that's okay. Everyone has an off-day, and this movie in particular didn't really give them much to work with that hasn't already been worked to death by everyone else, so retreading familiar jokes was inevitable.
