5.2 is quite good.
I like the more recent ones more, mainly because of colour (and possibly because I am a Technology Porn junkie). That said, they are all good enough to fit at least on Image Links.

If the trope were just "Laboratory", then I'd think the ones in 5 would be good. But if it's for a Mad Scientist, not so much.

My fellows, while I would also prefer more modern examples this does have a list of mandatory requirements in the description, of the classical style.
Breaking Bad is not exactly a good example. Making meth doesn't exactly equal Mad Science.

Classical style is still common, just wanted something from the 50s or 60s perhaps.
I don't know how Dr. Frankenstein's lab became the defacto lab for the mad scientist, blame that whole "playing god" biz... do prefer 12.1 over 12.2 though.

I can't think of it at the moment but I believe there is a trope for that, Dr. Frankenstein paraphernalia being the epitome of the mad scientist in all its forms.

I kind of like the style in 12.2 better than 12.1, but both are good. Though without that line on the left edge of 12.2.
