Y: The Last Man (comic book series)

Haven't gotten my hands on the story proper, but the apparently unintentional Gendercide is an interesting premise. One thing bugs me, though: Has there been any in-story mention about what exactly happened to the Middle East following the Gendercide? I have a lot of trouble imagining how the women of Arab and Muslim societies would react if all the men suddenly died out on them.

If I remember right Israel became a regional power because they let women serve equally in the military and the like but it's been just ages since I've read the series and I never finished it.

Most or all of the Middle Eastern countries blame Israel for the plague, and a major part of the story involves a female Israeli soldier trying to capture the main character to be in a much better position of power. Israel has the upper hand thanks to the trained female soldiers, and it's been a while since I've read it as well, but I think they attempt to secure Middle Eastern countries. There may have been Palestinian suicide bombers as well.

Well, there would not be anymore need for masks, veils or head scarfs beyond protection from the environment. With no men, no female living area. With no female living area, no need to cover up when leaving it. The "Qu'ran only" branch of Islam might grow a little (might, I feel like I am underestimating the probable response from the reactionaries). The Kafiroon might rise in social status for a generation though because modern educators would probably be in a higher demand per capita than most other areas.

It'd really be a case for case basis though and I don't feel like doing one of those. (how strong is the resistance to Islam? In some places it is virtually non existent, some have a belligerent Muslim minority, others a kafir minority viewed as problematic, sometimes the Muslims could very well assimilate into the larger Christian/Hedonist/insert Harbi term here, under the right circumstances, such as a gendercide forcing everyone to work together) Granted, who typed the words "Arab" and "Middle East" but my thoughts were "Muslims in general" including Africa below the Sahara, the Caribbean and further East in Asia. Somalia is virtually 100% Muslim, why does everyone always equate Islam with the "Middle East"? Oh right, oil. How is Israel going to become a superpower again? Female army or not, Israel is pretty much the only place in Western Asia without oil. An army needs fuel. At most I just see them taking the disputed territories.

Oh, so the "Middle East" now stretches as further west than the UK? I don't think our politicians really get the concept of geography. I wonder if Trinidad would turn green on the map if it decided to be a Sharia state or otherwise took up a sufficiently Arabic sounding term to describe itself? (To their credit, they are using the right color, if that is deserving of any)

I know the United States of America would be pretty rough off without roughly 49% of the population, practically, half of everything. Then again, I can't even wrap my head around half of all mammals just disappearing, most with no way to reproduce at all.

I have the first two volumes of this... which I only bought because my aunt somehow picked up issues 11-60 in original floppy form and perfect condition at a garage sale and gave me the box. I really should finish reading it.
