Finally started this game.
It's great. MDHR really deserves all the praise they've gotten for the animation alone, I can't imagine the level of commitment that was necessary to actually finish all this shit.
I'm finding it challenging but not hair-tearingly hard so far, but there's plenty of room for that change. The bosses have only gotten tougher so far (Hilda Berg took me several tries).
It took me several tries before I realized why I kept dying to the ghosts in the Mausoleum, even though I had full health. Did the game actually explain the mechanics of that minigame, and I just missed it?
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.There's a fish on the overworld that basically says you have to parry the ghosts.
"Parry red things" is drilled into you ridiculously hard throughout the game in general.
Dammit, now I can't remember if I missed what she said, or if I merely assumed that avoiding the ghosts would be good enough.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Did anyone notice the (new) butterflies in Treetop Trouble and Forest Follies? (Some of which are parryable though it does nothing for your super meter.) They appeared in one of the last two patches. I don't remember them being there originally.
They just flutter about kinda harmlessly being there.
I'm more than halfway through the game and I love it but I wonder if it'll be the game to drive me insane. I'm going to want to get a perfect rank on everything and I'm genuinely worried I'm just not good enough, but I'm gonna try anyway.
My favorite bosses so far are the Cuckoo house and the Opera Singer. Every boss is a visual delight and a good challenge, but I liked the how the both of them progressed (In particular, the Cuckoo's morbidly dark ending), and they were easier than anything else on their island, which is good for me.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018It feels so amazing that the game won both awards for "Best Soundtrack" and "Even Better Than I Expected" at the Steam Awards! Well done!

Apparently Redditors really loved Cuphead, it was nominated and won in...
- Best Debut Indie Game
- Best Independent Game
- Best Action Game
- Games For Impact (Other Choice Award)
- Best Score/Music (won by 1 vote!)
- Best Art Direction
- Best PS 4 Exclusive (Console). (Other Choice Award, Redditors have a sense of humor it seems.)
- Best Xbox One Exclusive
Not enough people give Microsoft praise.
Microsoft looked at Cuphead, and told the devs, "This is hot. We want more. Make it bigger."
"Best Score/Music (won by 1 vote!)"
I'm guessing Nier Automata came in second?

^ No, it was Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
And in other news I am on the FINAL FOUR! All bosses but four are A-ranked or better! And cleared on Expert!
All I have left are Rumor Honeybottoms, Captain Brineybeard, King Dice and The Devil to A-rank or better.
Brineybeard's not that bad. The rest, good luck. But then again, you also A-ranked the likes of Grim Matchsticks and Dr. Kahl, so things shouldn't be so bad.
It's been 3000 years…The funniest part about it was. I was en route to S-ranking Grim Matchstick when I screwed up and took a hit right at the very end by dropping through the platforms. And for whatever reason it denied me an S-rank on Dr Kahl's Robot via Time.
Cala Maria on Expert was quite fun, so was Sally Stageplay, Grim Matchstick, Wally Warbles once I figured him out again, and oddly enough The Phantom Express. (I had beaten that one on Expert several times before, but no A-rank.)
Werner Werman can go to Hell. He's not fun with that idiotic Cherry Bomb Cannon of his and his leaves-you-nowhere-to-go bottle cap buzzsaws. I can't tell you how many times I just hit Retry SIMPLY BECAUSE THE FUCKER OPENED UP WITH CHERRY BOMB CANNON! Mostly because you have so few Parry opportunities otherwise.
The Queen Bee has been Bee-ten... ok I'll show myself the door.
Rumor Honeybottoms A-ranked! Three bosses remain...
I'd like to see Cuphead 2 as a run-and-gun platform shooter, with fewer but more impressive boss fights.
Part of me really wants to get this game. The part of me that knows I'm not really that great at these kinds of games thinks that this game would probably send me to the madhouse.
Disgusted, but not surprised^ Get it, it's not THAT bad. It's not as hard as say I Wanna Be the Guy.
Yeah but when comparaing stuff to IWBTG, even dark souls's a walk in the park.
That being said, yeah, give it a shot. it has room to be much harder than it is and yet still be fair.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I guess I can live with hard if it's a fair hard.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIt's Ikaruga difficult.
... Did ikaruga got easy since liast time I checked ? Cause I'd say ikaruga's infinitely harder than anything in cuphead. Or we're talking about unlimited credits shenanigans. But finishing ikaruga with just 3 lives and the normal extends is much, much harder than just finishing cuphead.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Well put it this way, there's only a small (dare I say cup-sized) handful of times where the boss/stage seems to be or is outright cheating. At least 9 times out of 10, mistakes such as taking damage or dying are entirely your fault or if not (directly) your fault absolutely hilarious or engaging.
It won Best Independent Game as well. Best Music/Score was NieR: Automata and Wolfenstein II took Best Action.
Edit: Me hate pagetopper.
