I too wish Moana had won Best Original Song, if only for Lin-Manuel's award combo. He has 3 or 4 movies in the works right now, any of which could get him that O to go with his MacPEG_T, but he won't break the "youngest EGOT" and "quickest qualifying EGOT run" records, both of which he would have broken had he won this.

It's like, How Far I'll Go is what critics accuse it of, it's an "I Want" Song by a Disney heroine that's about not living up to what your family wants and finding your way, but damn it, it's a really, really good one. Who cares that it has a well-known four chords of pop structure and employs Truck Driver's Gear Change, in my mind it employs all these tropes because it knows it can pull it off and still leave you teary-eyed, which it does.
Also helps the instrumentation has Polyneasian flavor to keep it interesting and Auli'i is a great singer at young age that actually matches the character herself.
Plus the film reprises it not once, but twice, and manages to significantly change the lyrical meaning.
I like both films, but Zootopia is kind of a mess in points, even if that doesn't detract from it also having a great character duo and message.
Definitely snobby for a live action musical to win, and a meh song at that, when the obvious award bait song there didn't even make it.
Who's running that shitshow?
"No will to break."Old guys. Mostly white. All of 'em grumblin' at the neighbor kids to get off their lawn.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Honestly, I'm not too bummed about it losing the Oscar for Best Original Song, as I reall enjoyed the songs from La La Land (heck, my Mom was hoping that City of Stars would win it).
Still though, I hope than Lin gets an Oscar in the future, if only so he too can be an EGOT.
Did anyone else find it distracting that the official symbol of Moana's people was basically the Dreamcast logo?
Nobody bought a Dreamcast.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I did.
"No will to break."the dreamcast logo is literally a spiral???
Yes. It's pretty unimaginative. See above, re: nobody bought a Dreamcast.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.It's telling when the sequel to the best-selling Dreamcast game (Sonic Adventure 2) ended up doing far better as a remake on the Gamecube.

This song needs more love.On the subject of "Shiny" I enjoy it but I think the song is only really awesome, in both visual and melody, when the cave goes dark and we get the weird visuals and the darker beat, which only lasts the last 1/4 of the song, so not for long. My favorite moment of the song is probably when Tamatoa picks up Maui and comments "You try to be tough! But your armor's just not hard enoooooooough!".
That said I'd Kakamora are the best villains in the movie and "We Know the Way" is the best song of the movie, so Tamatoa isn't really that big of a deal to me. His sequence is good but not as memorable as it could be and it ends up feeling a bit weird because the character has no real comeuppance for what he did other than being flipped on his back as well as the fact his song, while mildly catchy, clashes violent with the movie's tone and feel.

"All you Fascists bound to lose.""We Know the Way" is my favorite as well, though I actually really like the "Shiny" song, it grew on me a ton the more I listened to it.
"That's a to-go order. See! It's already gone!!"There's not a song I don't like. Well, aside from the credits version of How Far I"ll Go, which is generic electro-garbage and clashes terribly with the aesthetic.
I still like the sheer pragmatism of the premise, Moana doesn't have the goal to restore cosmic balance or fight the forces of evil, she helped a jerk find his way and a wounded goddess get her heart back, all so her people can grow crops and fish again. Also reunite their voyage routes.
"No will to break."I like Moana well enough, it's probably my favorite of the new era Disney films alongside Ralph, but the repeated elements are shown here more than ever: the wide-eyed optimist female lead, the snarky male lead, the wacky roadtrip...At least Zootopia was more "fresh" in a sense, and I much preferred that one to win.
I mean it's much better than how BH 6 pretty much took the Oscar in 2014 for no reason.
I love "We Know the Way." That song is wonderful. That and "How Far I'll Go" and "I Am Moana" are my favorites. "Shiny" is really fun, too.
Bahaha, I didn't even think of that, but yeah the premise is really pragmatic. Moana is only in this to make her village not starve anymore. Quite a contrast to Tangled, for instance, where Rapunzel wanted to explore the world outside her tower. Though I guess Anna's goal in Frozen was just to get her sister to stop freezing everything.

Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Anna's goal in Frozen was to get her sister to love her again. Getting her to stop freezing everything was a secondary goal that sprang up when shit got real.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Oh, right. Well, then I guess that's not as pragmatic as Moana's goal. was.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Honest Trailer for Moana is out.

Who's up for DP Avenger!
This is the greatest idea ever. Do it, Disney. And add Vanellope, she can teleport.
FUND IT, DISNEY! I would so watch the hell out of Disney Princess Avengers.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.A lot of Moana videos are being posted online today, because it's out on home video! :D
Ohh, that explains that! That is very cool! I'm assuming it's on iTunes, too? Hopefully I can buy it when I actually have money. Whenever that is.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Oh right, I forgot Disney has Pokemon now.
Tekamon Go though.
It's been 3000 years…
I like "Shiny" as well. Always got a laugh out of me when Tamatoa sings "Now I eat you so prepare your final plea."
Crashing the Oscars does seem like something Tamatoa would do, if only to grab every single Oscar to add to his shell.
