Made entirely from clip-art.

For everything from curing thirst to aircraft carriers to creating life, try Water!

I thought Phlebotinum is something fantastic?

Yeah, those are just common, albeit varied, usages of water. This trope is about using unknown substance or technology to achieve (plot-relevant) fantastic things

The suggestion isn't applicable. This is about scientific, magical plot fuel.

Eh, I am neutral to OK to the suggestion. The trope is "the versatile substance that may be rubbed on almost anything to cause an effect needed by a plot." and it includes both fantastic and not so fantastic stuff.

...but it's like 99.9% fantasy and 0.1% real, and does stuff that is totally not magic. Examples given by the article include "nanotechnology, magic crystal emanations, pixie dust, a sonic screwdriver, and Green Rocks". Water is by far in the wrong spirit. I do not feel neutral at all; strongly negative.

Maybe a demonstration would work better then, like the paintbrush from Epic Mickey or the nano forge from Red Faction.

The Epic Mickey pictures look more like Improbable Weapon User, to be honest.

This isn't an easy trope to get across visually. I don't think any of the suggestions pull it off. I vote BUPKIS.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Would art of Superman and Metallo qualify? Or would using Kryptonite make distinctions with Green Rocks harder to maintain? Here the Kryptonite is powering Metallo and weakening Supes.

[up]I think that image would actually work better for Power Crystal, since the pic for that page doesn't really look like a crystal.

[up] I agree, plus that pic is crappy quality.
