Another thing about this show that people forget is how likeable the cast is too.

Nope. Only Gundam I've seen besides this are the 00 and AGE series.

Well, it was announced in November.

Oh, about Miss Sazabi. It's white rather than red. So it probably will be slower than Sazabi.

Okay several things.

1. There is a release date for the OST it's on March 12 and it's 2 disk. Until then, you can listen to a 2 miniute preview of Tatsuya Yuuki theme from the Blu ray trailer. Don't worry, you can admit to going back to episodes 2 and 6 to listen to Yuuki theme, I know I'm guilty of it.

2. Not sure if you guys know this but there is a prequel manga to Build Fighters staring Yuuki when he was a kid. In it, Yuuki has a maid that uses a Gaia Gundam, that looks like a cat. Bearguy vs Cat Gaia animate it NOW!

3. For those looking for an awesome Wing Fenice for your background image, here you go.

Man, fan artists work fast. I still think that the scene most deserving of an awesome fanart background is the Jegan vs Dark Gundam fight, though. (At the moment I'm using a low-res screencap, and it's still awesome.)

Am I the only one who takes the line towards Mary Sue (aka Samurai Boy) about him not being a real Gunpla fan very harshly?

Considering Bandai tried to start America out with Doozy Bots, taunted us with Turn A only to not only take it away but also take away everything else, and have generally acted like "Americans are just like Japanese except with different faces... and stupid", to hear the one American in the main cast being told he's not a real Gunpla fan is just cruel. Kick us while we're down, why don't ya, Bandai! It's not like we can support your products or anything!

You are taking this in the entirely wrong way. It reminds me of how people complained that Resident Evil 5 was racist.

I'm more annoyed by the fact that Nils is, in essence, a weeaboo. Dude is a Child Prodigy with black belts in two different Japanese martials arts, his battle costume is traditional Japanese clothing, his primary mecha is a samurai, and he's also apparently a ninja. The guy is more Japanese than any of the explicitly Japanese characters — and he's supposed to be one of the best and brightest people in America.

In other words, the smartest/best American in the show has decided that the best way to win is to be Japanese. They did the same thing with Mr. Bushido in Gundam 00, where the Union's best pilot decided that in order to be a better warrior, he needed to be more Japanese. (Not to mention Seed and Destiny portraying Americans as easily-duped sheep blindly following the orders of their nefarious leaders at best, and gleefully genocidal xenophobic racists at worst, with the One True Path to goodness and peace being represented by a highly-idealized Japan.) All of this compared to earlier explicitly-American characters in Gundam, like Duo and Chibodee, who are given much more positive characterizations vis-a-vis their nationality.

The not-really-liking-gunpla thing isn't really a part of it, though — at least not in reference to his being American. True, he's American and he's not really a gunpla fan, but we see at least one American who is a real gunpla fan (the former champ that Nils defeats), and other characters of different nationality (like Aila) are shown to have the same attitude as well.

Nils being so Japanese is so grating to me that I can only explain it as him being actually half American and his mother being Japanese which would explain why his room had a Japanese feel to it. I haven't seen SEED or 00 though so I have no idea about how Americans were portrayed by Sunrise in those series but if it's a trend maybe someone should tell Sunrise that not all Americans are weaboos fawning over Japan. I am Spanish so Nils doesn't really bother me, just that I can't recognize him as being American (I like Yuuki because of his flamenco leitmotif though. It's rare to hear flamenco in Anime)

Also, the only spaniards I recall in gundam are Alejandro "Smug Snake" Corner, Pampered Loius "MY PARENTS ARE DEAD" Halevy and Leesa "Sumeragi "Alcoholic and sexually active" Lee Noriega" Kujou.

Don't forget; Germany has a guy who's more focused on revenge than he is winning the competition, Finland has a snack addicted tsundere, Italy has a Casanova, Thailand has a former baseball player (Thailand plays baseball?), Argentina has twins, and Japan is being represented by Gunpla school, a alien, and a friendly Char clone (by Char clone standards). My point is, if you wanted to poke at a character for where they come from you could do it to every single one the characters. Why Nils gets more flack (I understand why he does) than everyone else just doesn't seem fair to me.

An argentinian blogger I follow actually loves the Argentinians characterization here.

The thing about Bandai Entertainment, when they were still active, was they wanted their series to be as popular in the US as they were in Japan. All they had to do was beat out Star Wars, Star Trek, The Terminator, Robo Cop, Friends, Sienfeld, Batman, Superman, Spider Man, Iron Man, and a long line of other US cultural icons.

In essence, Bandai's problem is that they kept trying to run the US like they ran Japan, believing them to be the same. And when that didn't work, they gave up completely and denied us access to all our favorite shows.

That's what's so problematic about Mary Sue. He permeates the attitude that "Americans are just like Japanese, but white and stupid!" Considering the situation we're in, that's not very good to say. What would happen if Fellini was the US rep? Think about it, he has a Wing mecha as his first Gunpla, he's got traits similar to Duo and Chibodee, why isn't he our guy instead of some Egg?
