Suggestion: Despair Event Horizon

When I re-read the trope, I immediately thought of this guy◊. And not just that guy, but specifically that picture of him — in the middle of darkness, hunched over like a tortured version of The Thinker... I'm honestly surprised I didn't think of it before. I can practically hear "Hedgehog's Dilemma" just by looking at it.

The only thing that worries me is it being indistinguishable from Heroic Bluescreen...

What do you think, IP? Is this sufficient?

So-so, I would say.

I'm not sold on it, the reasoning you give is decent but I'm not feeling the horizon has been reached.

Anybody able to find a picture of that shot of Shinji from End where his face is all crinkled and Off-Model and he's covering it with his hands?

Did she have that long hair? Anyway, I kinda like it. Not so much insane as some other suggestions, but more just despair and not having any will to continue.

While it definitely counts in the show, I don't know how it comes across to everyone else, especially with the crown thing.

I think it's a bit weak compared to some other suggestions.

It definitely shows either a very depressed or very "ugh why do I have to put up with these people" gray horse, yes, but I think Shinji on the chair works better.

And yes, I know what the actual context for gray Twilight Sparkle is, but I do have to approach this from the angle of somebody who doesn't.

Not sure if this reflects the "despair horizon" enough, but may I suggest this◊? I think the darkness adds some of that effect.

@Lentil: It's a good example, but it won't mean anything to someone who hasn't seen the show.

I think the Shinji one is the strongest so far.

The Shinji one is good but 14 also has its merits.
