Image picking won't have changed it's mind in a couple of months. There's nothing wrong with the current picture. If it can be shown without the diagram I'm sure we'd be open to suggestions.
And the diagram is exactly my problem. What, exactly, is the difference between a diagram saying, in effect, "HAY GUYS DIS LADY IS A STEPMOTHER" and a caption saying the same thing? That's no better than JAFAAC, is less visually interesting, and implies we're too stupid to know that an older women berating a younger woman on a trope page called "Wicked Stepmother" is, guess what, A STEPMOTHER! Who'd have guessed?
And just because one thread picked an image is no reason to disregard a dissenting voice. We already have several threads on here to the same effect, such as He Who Fights Monsters, so my point stands.

Explain to me how the image at the bottom, taken by itself, and with the caption "She's her stepmother, and she's abusive" is considered unacceptable, while the current is. I am saying completely honestly and without sarcasm that I don't see the difference.
So... if your complaint is about the diagram, would it suffice to remove those charts and leave the "abuse" image? Or do we change the whole thing altogether?
Yes, that's entirely my point. The image would be fine with just the image. I want you to look me in the metaphorical eye and tell me with complete sincerity that with that image alone, people would be misled as to the meaning of the trope. I wholeheartedly doubt it. Why are we adding a bunch of ugly crap to an image to clarify something that nobody needs clarified? Classic example of Viewers Are Morons, the over-literalness that Fast Eddie warned about, and a solution in search of a problem.

I don't like the current. It's painful in how it tells you the definition of a stepmother as the person her dad remarried, and I find it ugly.
However, I don't have any suggestions for a new image, and I don't think that simply using the image in it sans family tree would work.
I'll go for a weak Keep Until Better Image Suggested on the image, and a pull vote on the caption.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I do not agree that "misleading" is the only problem an image can have, or that a diagram is no more illustrative than text. I also do not agree with opening up a thread 3 months after the former thread for what looks like complaining about the previous choice.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPlease explain why you feel the diagram is a better choice than a caption. I don't see the difference. Please do so in a manner that respects people who have an opinion different than yours rather than being condescendingly dismissive.

Well, it takes less time to me than a caption to understand. Imagery for me is always faster read than text. And you'll have to point me at where I was "condescending" if it was about me.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCalling it "complaining" when I feel I have a legitimate grievance against the picture, and this thread has shown others share my opinion. Also simply saying that you "disagree" with reopening a thread just because, when there have been plenty of precedents on this board for that happening. Instead of addressing my problems with the trope image, you are in essence saying "we talked about this before, so shut up and go away, your opinion doesn't matter".
My concerns are this: 1. Please explain how the diagram is any different from a caption for JAFAAC criteria. I sincerely and honestly do not see how they are functionally any different. 2. Explain how removing the diagram would cause misuse and confusion as to the meaning of this trope. Basically, why is the diagram necessary? 3. Explain how having the diagram improves the trope page enough to counteract the visual detraction.
If you can give me a convincing answer to these concerns, I will shut up and go away.

OK, to be honest, I called it complaining because your tone is so aggressive. The next time, I'll ignore it. The image is not heinously bad for me, so I will just vote Keep Until Better Image Suggested on it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNitrokitty, "I Hate this image ! Hate HATE HATE it!!!111!" is not sufficient reason or an appropriate way to start an IP thread.
You don't like diagrams as page images. That's abundantly clear. That does not make them the same as Just A Face And A Caption.
Locking this up.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Madrugada's argument from the first thread is precisely the reason why the current pic was supported:
I did pull the caption, as it was completely unnecessary, but this thread is nothing but whining about someone's wonk and is a waste of our time. Locking up.
This pic is the worst image I have ever seen. It insults my intelligence. Seriously, I am not kidding when I say I feel offended that this image is on this page. This is Viewers Are Morons at its very worst. Pull this thing NOW.
