But Mephistopheles doesn't do that. That's not even slightly stated in my description of the NP. The NP works by summoning fears, just like in how TATARI works in-canon. Except... massively simplified and weakened. I never once say it kills anyone instantly at all. That's nothing like what I said. All it can do is incarnate fears. Where did the instant death thing come from?

And isn't "it's big and loud" the justification for why a lot of NP's in canon even can't get used commonly? Breaking the secrecy of the Grail War is kind of serious in that it gets the Mage Association and probably the overseer after you, I think it's a pretty big issue. Why would an NP like that get spammed or anything, anyway? Also, she has to summon the ships slowly out of a GoB-style... thing. It's pretty clear that's how it is from /extra.

Edit: Also, since TATARI is operating purely off of fears as opposed to rumors and anxieties as well, it's probably weaker, so if the range is really a problem I can limit it.

Well I can understand that.

But I need to know if you think my guns are too OP. This is Fate/ we're talking about and powerful but fair is at least my impression of it.

Yes Annie's abilty allows her to hit anything she can see. Maybe I'll modify it to having to have a direct line of sight with no obstruction. The same goes for her NP which while it does follow her line of sight perfectly she still needs to be looking at it.

And while she can see far its not as though she has 360 degree vision. So basically if you get out of her line of sight she doesn't have much else to defend herself with and would have to run from an enemy that's gotten too close.

If you still think that Annie wouldn't fit after this I'll retract the sheet.

I actually had the guns situation explained to me in a different way not explained in that post—that a Noble Phantasm gun's bullet would move at such speeds as to relatively be as fast to a Servant as a normal gun to a normal person. So, unstoppable, undodgable, and incredibly deadly.

Well...I guess I'll pull out then.

I don't feel like writing for anything other than Annie right now, but I guess I'll make another if some inspiration hits and there's still a spot left.

Yeah the guns thing has been around for a while. I learned about it the hard way when I tried to make John Moses Browning a servant in the last one and it was met with... less than stellar response

Well, no harm no foul, bro. Guns are hard to balance, and if I ever make my Modern Servant RP Fate/Newtype I'll have to address that. Doesn't mean you can't make a cool Servant.

Would Solomon Ibn-Gabirol be Kosher as a Servant? Or, better yet, Judah Loew ben Bezalel, the MaHaRaL of Prague?

  • Description: As we all know, thievery is an ancient and well-honed art amongst raccoons, and the three famous tanuki brothers of Japan are no exception by far. Their skills at theft and deception are so good they are even capable of snatching Noble Phantasms and other belongings away from their owners before they even realize it. Anything that is not firmly secured and in sight can be stolen without the owner's knowledge (items currently being held like armor or a sword require the brothers to first disarm their opponent before any attempts to snatch it may be made). However, the brothers are bound by a curse on their honor to always return what they steal in equal value, meaning that the stolen items will always find their way back to their owners by the end of the day, even if none of the brothers are alive to return it.

EX Witchcraft? On an Assassin? Dood, have you ever heard about balance?

It's literally the only way they can do jack. They have E Rank stats in all their physical categories, and those three Es are split between three brothers, meaning each of them are worth one third of the crappiest possible fighter. These guys do not do combat that well.

Plus, EX is the only rank the Witchcraft skill can be at, as the Dakini heavenly arts are sort of exclusive to those of japanese lore, like kitsune and bake-tanuki.

If I may say something about Faust and Draque...

Secrecy is important in a Grail War, so Draque's Cannon NP wouldn't be spammed, and I recall it needing lots of treasure to even be a credible threat. So unless the Master has Gil-levels of wealth, I can't see it being all that devastating. And even if it was, I don't think it's necessarily an instant win.

And Anno's already pointed out that Mephisto doesn't insta-kill an army's worth of opponents. It just forms their fears. It's not really an auto-win skill, and her personality would prevent it from being used, anyway.

How so? The person with EX-rank is both very intimately connected with said arts in the first place (rather than generally linked) and is part of a god. I can't see the logic in not just going with A rather than 'impossibly high'.

The rank of some skills are dependent on the user, whereas other skills are just so balls out bizarre that EX was the only label you could put on them, like the Golden Fleece, Imperial Privilege, Numeral of the Saint or Pioneer of the Stars. They're rare skills because that's the only rank they exist at, and they only exist at that specific rank because they don't fit in anywhere else, either because they're too powerful or just too hard to classify.

Um... why would I make a character unwilling to use something if I was going to spam it? I like playing my characters IC, so of course I wouldn't have her use it because it's not in-character. That's basically nonsense, it violates how the character would act completely.

Mephistopheles is mostly there for flavor, you can't have a Faust servant without making a reference to Mephistopheles. And the only way I could really think to explain Mephistopheles, since it's not like a standard demon, was using TATARI. So I worked out how to make summoning TATARI work as an NP, and put it there as flavor. I mean, it's not impossible it would get used, but it would really take a lot for Faust to use something she hates so much, it's completely OOC for her to do that.

We've had examples of guns as Noble Phantasms in a previous RP and they were rejected on the grounds that they would be too overpowered/broken to be involved in an RP since they're capable of inflicting instant death.
• @Tanuki Brothers: Ability to steal Noble Phantasms, the ability to allure others with the power of Witchcraft which is of an EX Rank? Going to say no, rejected.

But not OOC for you, is the point. It doesn't matter if a character doesn't want to use something, if the option is still there to use it, circumstances can always be contrived to force a situation in which it must be used. This is a general rule of game balance in an RP.

Also, how does someone who summons demons summon a Dead Apostle? The correlation is non-existent and makes no sense. Plus, you still have yet to explain how squishy human Masters are going to deal with an endless onslaught of nightmare creatures when their Servant is already occupied with their own menagerie of fears. Another thing you haven't bothered to explain is how it manifests something like a fear of heights, or a fear of growing old, which could be some pretty nasty instant kills.
