Agreed. Outdated History sounds like it could be about relevance rather than facts, but I think would still be a good title.
The only other idea I can think of is Formerly Accurate History or Formerly Accurate, but I'm kinda meh on those names. Dated History sounds pretty great to me. Short, sweet, and to-the-point.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. The titles crowner's hooked; I'll update the thread title shortly.
Dated History is at 8:2, we need more votes
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I think Formerly Accurate History is the clearest title. Upvoted that one, downvoted the others.
I didn't see that one get added. I like it.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I don't like Formerly Accurate History because sometimes the preferred version of history is actually less accurate than what was formerly believed. It would be nice if history were a straight line toward ever more accurate knowledge of the past, but that is not so. Also, some of the examples have not to do with inaccuracy, but with jarring irony resulting from things that are now commonly known, such as J Edgar Hoover's crossdressing, or Lugosi's drug addiction, or the extent of different levels of cooperation by locals with the Nazis, etc.
That is misuse. That is why the trope is being disambiguated.
Dated History has 14 for and 3 against.
The main reason why I haven't requested a crowner call yet is because I won't have time to do work on it anywhere soon.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCalling for Dated History.
I've put in a disambig, but I am not sure of the relationship between Dated History and Dewey Defeats Truman.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDDT is when a prediction of history (like a Precrime Arrest) turns out false.
The name/image is the newspaper printed before the results were in for the election.
Dated History fits for when history has already happened, but the history books of fiction need correcting based on new evidence.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.So are we definitely renaming this to Dated History?
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Yes. The old name has become a disambig.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHas this move been finished?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickNo, the wicks still need to be disambiguated.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSociety Marches On tends to suffer the same kind of misuse, maybe we need to make a TRS thread about it too (after the forum gets unclogged).
After the forum gets unclogged.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI've fixed the remaining 200 wicks. The only item I wanted to note before this wraps up is Failed Future Forecast, which seems like an almost-duplicate of Dewey Defeats Truman but with a much clearer name.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"That'd be a case for another TRS - and given that Dewey Defeats Truman is the much more widespread name, it might actually be the better concept.
Closing this.

Crown Description:
History Marches On has 60% misuse (+ unclear use). History can be changed by time progressing and the present becoming history, or by new discoveries about the past. Add in issues with people predicting an event after the event, and getting it wrong, and the term has generated a large amount of misuse for the name.
So put up an Alternative Names crowner, and we can decide between them, or get more ideas.
