Ok, so last thread ended withou a change to the nail image because we weren't clear on wheter the trope required time travel. I made a TRS topic to resolve the dispute, then it diverged into another issue and was shutdown by the admin, who also removed the timetravel/elseworld qualifier.

Now, we still have the nail pic and there was the suggestion in the previous threads involving a knight replacing the nail as it's JAFAAC and doesn't contribute much.

Any disagreement?

Now that Fast Eddie removed the "time travel/else world" requirement, I think it's possible to use that knight image now.

I can tell there's some kind of battle in the background, but I can't tell if that's a tournament.

I also support the knight if it gets a good caption.

yeah, I can't see how the trope could involve time travel and have real life examples at the same time... Unless we could prove that time travel actually exists, ahah. Just my two cents anyway...And I'm digressing... Baaaad me, bad. :( Regarding the pic, honestly I fail to see how the knight shows the trope any better than the nail. If nothing I prefer the nail on the basis that it's less... distracting, if that makes any sense.

The idea behind the knight is that he could participate to the tournament if he didn't have a nail stuck in the hoof.

[up]My only concern is that that doesn't look like a tournament to me, but instead some kind of battle.

I'm in favor of the knight, and even if we don't use that we should still pull the current as Just A Nail And A Caption.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!

The knight works for me.

Him not being able to participate in a battle is just as if not more significant than missing a tornamnet.

Please, after all these threads, let's change the nail and put up the knight.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Wait, I can actually see how the knight picture could be interpreted properly even without knowing that the battle in the background's a tournament:

The knight's color is blue, while the others are gold.

Therefore, the knight could be the only one on his team to be in the battle, and since a relatively trivial item is hindering him from participating in the battle, and thus, he lost.

Or, he could be a leader, and has to go off battle for a trivial item. Without guidance, his were uncoordinated and thus, lost the battle.

If others want the picture on this trope, then I'll be fine with this one.

For whatever it's worth, I think the knight illustrates the trope better than just a nail. You can see how there's trouble with the horseshoe and both he and the horse are unhappy over it.

While the background is open to interpretation, one interpretation is "assembling the army to go to war". It's obvious that the knight can't join in because of horseshoe trouble, anyway.

One or two more votes for the knight and we can put the hammer to it.

I think this needs a caption to make the horseshoe clearer...

How about "A nail! A nail! My kingdom for a horseshoe nail!" as a caption?

The text of the proverb/poem "For Want of a Nail" is:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the knight was lost.
For want of a knight the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

All or part of that as a caption? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_Want_of_a_Nail
