Is there a good reason why they chose a publisher instead of self-publishing? Wasn't the money they got from the crowdfunding enough for them to self-publish? Or is there something I don't know about this?
i could be remembering this wrong but:
They tried to hold a semi kickstarter to get Voice acting in the game but it failed to garner enough to get both Jap and English VA's....then some DLC was announce and they tried to do the same for that but that failed outright.
I think they went under deep silver to get funding to try and get everything they want in the game before release.
There's a much better explanation earlier in the thread somewhere.

Money wasn't enough.
There was an article posted a while back in this thread about how professional crowdfunding efforts significantly downplay the actual costs of producing a game: mostly they just use them to garner interest and get the bulk of their funding elsewhere.
I think that's why Koji Igarashi was rather upfront about his kickstarter campaign, he said that the campaign was to demonstrate interest and that he had been promised (if he reached his basic goal of half a million) to get the other 90% of the funding from investors.
^^ You're talking about this article: http://www.polygon.com/2015/5/19/8624665/big-indie-kickstarters-are-killing-actual-indies
(Please pardon the provocative title)
They added a Cross Buy, Retro Hero bonus (Retro Beck and 8-bit sounds, one hit kills Beck) and a figure! Check out that design overhaul on Ray, too! The Insta-Kill mode is not exclusive to Retro Hero, and will be available to the game itself so that's nice.

...Why is looking like Minecraft now retro?
Minecraft isn't the only one out there that is retro...

Minecraft isn't retro at all and Beck looks like a Minecraft character with that "retro" skin.
Hmmm. Yeah actually that "Retro" style isn't very retro at all. I understand this is the limitations of style within the game.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. If you were to convert a sprite into a 3D model that's probably what it would look like. Beck would look out of place if he was a flat 2D sprite.

Found footage of someone playing the game at E3.
The Protomen enhanced my life.It could be just for E3? Hopefully?
The Protomen enhanced my life. What's wrong with the tutorial? It doesn't even stop you from playing. It just flashes on the screen quickly.
As for the game itself I think it looks pretty good. It's nothing groundbreaking but it looks like Mega Man which is what I wanted. My one big complaint is that I don't like Beck's walking animation.
I don't really mind the tutorial itself as the game introduces new mechanics anyway, but I do feel slightly peeved that I somehow have to learn how to jump and shoot again.
I know Arin's credibility as a gamer has been destroyed a long time ago, but he'd probably see the stage as a regression from the way X1 taught its mechanics to the player.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.Really? What happened to this Arin fellow? I'm afraid I don't know his work very well.
Egoraptor. He does a series called Sequelitis where he analyzes game design between installments in video game series. His most famous video is the "Mega Man Classic vs. Mega Man X" episode, in which he praises X1's intro stage for how it teaches players to play the game without treating them like idiots. Come Game Grumps, and...well, let's just say he's not the greatest at video games.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy. He actually did pretty well in the Nintendo World Championships, so I don't think he's that bad at games. I think people keep underestimating him because when he's playing around in Game Grumps, he often makes tons of mistakes, usually thanks to ignoring hints dropped by the games he plays.
Not that I've watched enough Game Grumps episodes to make that assumption though as I've only just started watching the series (with LttP) recently.
Just saw the MN9 trailer, and it's looking pretty good. Has there been any news about the cartoon though?

To my knowledge, no.
At this point the game had better be near perfect or people will claim Inafune stole their money.
Inafune doesn't care, he already got all the money he could get. The animated kickstarter failed so now they're doing this to try to get money before the game is out and pushes away potential buyers.
Edit: Kamiya talked.

The graphics to me Look WAY better than when i last saw em.....i wasn't expecting much higher unless they went 2d sprites.
As for empty space....it looks more like the NES Megaman games. Granted i can see why that would be a problem.
