Poor Image: One Game For The Price Of Two get usage counts

Zelda Oracles was chosen as the page image in this topic, but it's a terrible example. They're two entirely different fully-featured games, bigger then Link's Awakening each, that happen to link together. Awful example.

Pokémon was apparently downvoted as being too fan myopic, but Zelda Oracles were not one game split in two at all.

Oy, I had the article name in the box, but I was getting server downtime messages and it decached sorry. The article is One Game for the Price of Two.

I wouldn't call this a terrible example. The plots are intimately connected in the grander scheme, and the gameplays are very similar. In fact, there is one page for both The Legend of Zelda Oracle games. That said, I think Pokémon is a good example.

Isn't this the third topic we've had on this?

At any rate, I still like the old S3&K one I made. It was argued to be not an example, and yet there it is under Type 2.

I'd say stick with the current; you may claim that the two Zelda games are each big enough to be a separate game, but the same applies to the two Sonic games.

This is the 3th topic we have on this. [1], [2].

Going to have vote Keep on this. The objection is not all that strong.

This page should be tagged to list all of these threads and say to not start a thread unless you have a very, very good example.

That's like the inversion of TRS (where your OP should focus on what the problem is over what you want to do about it), in a way....

No, the other one.
The equivalence of having an image suggestion when you open a new IP thread to TRS would be having evidence that there needs to be done something about the page.

But really, apples and pears. IP is sort of like a line, where you're heading towards better image no matter what trope you're talking about. For TRS you need to figure out where on the map you're on, and then which way to go from there, so you can't really just start to walk aimlessly in one direction if you don't know where you start.

I agree that it's not the best example, but as an image it's decent. It's not bad enough to pull, but if somebody would whip up a similar image with something like Pokemon Red and Blue (they're literally the same game, only with a few different Mons), it would illustrate just as well and would have the bonus of not being confusing to people who know that the two Zelda games are different.

There already is an image like that on that Pokémon Red and Blue. We could move that here and get a different image for the game.
Oracles is fine because the image on The Legend of Zelda Oracle games is artwork:

The Pokemon one lacks the text above the image, though.

I swear we had a Pokémon image here to begin with, and we decided against it. I don't remember the reasons.

It was pulled due to duplication and fan myopia concerns.

Well, yes. You can't just show two boxes side-by-side and expect people to just know they're an example of this trope (instead of e.g. a game and its sequel).
Special trousers. Very heroic.
The problem is that this trope is lumping two completely unrelated things together. One is a pair of games that have only minor differences in content, but both are needed to fully complete the game. The other is where one game is a continuation of the other, but are otherwise entirely separate games with different content.

Until this gets fixed, this trope is going to keep showing up here.

Belief or disbelief rests with you.

But the Oracle games are linked. The plots of each game are sublots to a larger story, and you must play both games to confront the Bigger Bads and the True Final Boss.

Arguably we should rename this, if the trope really is "two games that give bonus content if played together". It's really not objectively definable whether this counts as one game split into two, or two games that are related.

[up][up]The problem with that is that the same could be true of say, sequels. The oracle games are less "one game for the price of two" and more "two games that give you some bonus material if you link them". Yes, there is an overarching story between both of them, but they do function as self contained games.

Would this work well or would be a JAFAAC?

There's no point in bumping within a few hours. It works, but I still like Oracles better.
