Game Thread.
Discussion Thread.

Welcome to the world of Treseia, brave summoner! What is Treseia, you ask? And what is a summoner? Well I'm glad you asked, because here's a rundown of what you need to know! Treseia is a world not unlike our own, about a century and a half behind in terms of technology, give or take a couple years. People are born, grow up, go to school, try to find a good college and career, start a family, grow old, and offer their bodies to flesh eating spirits from another universe when they die.

Okay, so that's the main things about Treseia. The world is inhabited not only by people, but is frequently visited by magical beings called elementals. Elementals come in all shapes and sizes, some look like monsters, other like people, some look like inanimate objects, some even look like any weird combination of any of those. Whatever they look like, whether they can talk, whether they even have mouths, make no mistake these beings are intelligent. Intelligent and hungry. Elementals feed off of the magical energy humans naturally possess and the more they consume the stronger they become. Hundreds of years ago the elementals and humanity came to an agreement where an elemental would be contracted to a human and could be summoned from their world to carry out their contract holder's wishes in return for consuming the magic energy of their summoner. Constant summoning does have the negative effect of taking years off the summoner's life, but, hey, so does smoking. In any case, once the summoner dies, the contract allows for the elementals to consume the remaining magic by eating the body itself.

Elementals have a dazzling display of magical powers which makes them useful for a number of things. Anything from healing to fighting to baking to alarm clocks, to heating is within the capabilities of the right elemental. Which brings us to our story.

Treseia has seen better times. It only just recently came out of it's worst time as the global conflict between the great powers of the world ended only six months ago. This world war has seen countless killed and the endless destruction of homes. Once powerful countries are occupied by the victors while others collapsed from the strain of the war. Even the victorious powers are struggling just to sustain themselves in the broken peace they have achieved.

Aejang is one such country. Victory took it's toll on the strong but now vastly stretched out nation. Nearly overrun during the war, much rebuilding has to be done before Aejang can stand on it's own two feet again. The same cannot be said for neighboring Sansara, which is a nation-state in name only, the defeated power having devolved into warring states after the collapse of the central government.

The border town of Lakewood has gotten the worst of both worlds. Though it escaped the worst of the destruction, many of it's inhabitants were killed in the war. To make matters worse, raiders under the command of rogue Sansara warlords have begun invading, pillaging and murdering to their hearts' content. The Aejang government has it's hands full dealing with cases just like Lakewood's all over the country and is in to position to offer protection. To resolve the crisis, they have empowered the town to form it's own militia to counter the Sansara threat and lifting the ban on civilians using their elementals for combat.

That is were you come in. Maybe you are a soldier returned home and looking for work, maybe you are a local citizen who just wants to protect home and family, or maybe you're just some dumb kids who thought it looked like fun. Whatever the case, you have joined the militia and are now charged with restoring order and keeping the public safe. And now a bold plan has been put forward, to take the fight to the enemy and travel right into Sansara territory in a campaign to defeat the enemy once and for all!

Hi, people! For those of you who don't know, I'm Parable and I'll be your GM for this game. As you might have guessed, this is the result of watching too many 'mon shows as a kid and having a nostalgia trip recently. In fact, I intend to implement a combat system not unlike the Pokemon games, with elementals taking role as the fighters while summoners direct from behind the front lines. But this is better because you won't forget all but four moves when you level up! This will take some time for me to put together so in the mean time let us whip us up some characters!

Character Sheet

  • Name: Who are you?
  • Sex: Boy or Girl?
  • Age: Cranky geezer or young whiper snapper?
  • Appearance: What do you look like?
  • History: What have you been doing in life, where did you come from, what are you like? Are you a native to Lakewood? Are you an immigrant from another country?
  • Trivia: Anything else you think we should know?
  • Elementals: TBD (You'll start off with one and the max limit is five)

But wait, there's more! Everyone starts off with a single elemental partner. Maybe your parents gave handed you one of their own. Maybe it was a birthday present, maybe the contract was bought from a specialty store, or maybe you traded it for a bag of peanuts. Elementals answer the summon of whoever holds the summoner stone, a baseball sized white rock that acts as a key to the other universe. They will obey orders given by the holder of the stone once a contact binding the two has been made.

As the name suggests, each elemental has an affinity for one of the classical elements, Water, Fire, Air, and Earth, with each one having an advantage over the one listed after it and Earth looping around to be stronger than Water. A fifth element, Aether, also exists. It's unique in the fact that it has no advantages or disadvantages against any of the others.

Now here's what I hope will be the fun part of the sign-up. Everyone who makes a character can make a up to three elementals, whose own character sheet you can see below. These will be pretty minor guys in terms of strength since everyone needs to be on the same level. So this is either their first time being summoned or they weren't doing much prior to the story and it was probably not related to combat. Here's the interesting part: The three elementals you make will not be the ones who you get. I will take all the elementals made and randomly distribute one to each character. This is to simulate the way summoning works in the game. Summoners have no idea what their elemental is until they actually summon it.

Elemental Sign-Up Sheet

  • Name: What do they call themselves?
  • Element: One of the five mentioned above.
  • Sex: If you can tell...
  • Age: Of appearance. Elementals do not age. What you see is what they always have and always will look like.
  • Appearance: What do they look like? You can you use your imagination here, but the limiter is that the elemental cannot have anything besides the clothes on their backs and whatever they can carry in their hands. Assuming they wear clothes or have hands, of course. What items the posses on them cannot be anything that is technologically advanced. That is to say anything invented after 1800.
  • Trivia: Anything else we need to know. Personality quirks, interests, Non-combat related magic abilities, that sort of thing
  • Attacks: TBD

Join the militia! Protect your home and bond with you summoned elemental. Make the dream team that will save all that you hold dear!

[up]Wow, you must be pretty true to your name. Anyway, I'll have Elementals coming up after.

  • Name: Emil Ralfe
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 33
  • Appearance: My old Elemental and I. Man, I miss that guy.
  • History: His first experience with an Elemental was at age 18, when he found a summoner's stone stuck in the earth. After going at it with a chisel and hammer for 10 straight hours, he finally formed a contract with the Elemental within, an Earth Elemental named Lithos. A year later, he developed a particularly nasty smoking habit which would have serious repercussions later. The war came when he was age 25, at which point he joined the army. He mostly ran supplies during his time and didn't sustain any serious injuries, but when he came back to Lakewood at age 30, the combined toll of his smoking and his soul-sucking Elemental so sharply drained his life that the doctor predicted he would die at the age of 34. Hearing that news, he immediately threw his summoner stone into the river, and proceeded to live an Elemental-less life for the next 2 and a half years. Now, with a year left on his timer, he has decided to go out doing something worthwhile, and joined the militia for the safety of his hometown.
  • Trivia: Smoking kills, don't do it.
  • Elementals:

Mousa: With the exception of the elementals, this world is pretty much like the mid-1800's of real life. There wasn't any alchemy back then, if I recall.

Stanman: Accepted. Welcome to the Lakewood militia.

  • Name: Ted E. Bear
  • Element: Earth
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: Child/Adult
  • Appearance: A humanoid-like bear, Ted actually has two forms. While not on battle, he's a cutesy small bear, with little feet and the cutest eyes this side of the border. But when it's battle time, Ted grows, getting taller, more muscular, and most important, growing two extra arms!
  • Trivia: Outside of battle, Ted is a gentle, caring little bear who will cuddle and giggle at everything around him. But on his battle form, Ted has a permanent glare on his face, and he can't help but shout his attacks and yell his lungs out like a madbear.
  • Attacks: TBD

  • Name: Esmeralda
  • Element: Water
  • Sex: Female
  • Age: Adult
  • Appearance: Esmeralda has the shape of a beautiful human woman, but her entire body is made out of water! This means that she has no facial characteristics- apart from her yellow, glowing eyes- her hair is always swirling, and instead of legs, she has a whirpool under her, which takes her where she needs to go.
  • Trivia: Esmeralda hates fruits- for some odd reason- and no matter who she's fighting, she always has a smirk and a witty remark about the enemy, even if she's losing.
  • Attacks: TBD

  • Name: Jack J. Ester
  • Element: Aether
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: Adult
  • Appearance: With skin as white as snow, and no legs, Jack is the bounciest jester you'll ever meet. That's because instead of legs, he has a giant spring carrying him around. Apart from that, he wears normal purple jester clothing, and has some pretty sweet makeup and the biggest hat you'll ever see.
  • Trivia: Jack attacks by manifesting his Aether element into objects. Be it an instrument so he can send powerful musical notes towards his enemies, or a mallet for some good old close quarters combat, Jack will always reach for something behind his back and pull out his next object.
  • Attacks: TBD

  • Name: Marisa Woods
  • Sex: Girl
  • Age: 20. Doesn't look like it.
  • Appearance: "I got this flower from that forest near Lakewood! And this one fell from the sky!"
  • History: Buoyant, cheerful, bouncy, energetic, and full of spirit, Marisa has lived a full and happy life in Lakewood, as the president of the town's Adventure Club. Thanks to her two book-loving parents, Marisa has managed to keep that childlike spirit all the way into her adulthood, which helped her form the Club, a gathering of people interested in solving the mysteries and myth of the town. Eccentric and easily excited, Marisa wants to have the adventure of a lifetime: she wants to find new friends, form a party, explore the world, save something, so that she can live her dream of being the subject of the books she so dearly loves. The militia seems like a great first step: a place where she can protect her town and her loved ones that live there.
  • Trivia: Marisa is really friendly and supportive, and she'll go to any lengths to protect her dear friends. She almost never gets angry, always finds a way to see something through the lens of optimism, and she's also a fun-loving adventurer, ready to fight against any threat that steps in her way. Oh, and she's excellent with disguises. Give her a mustache, and she'll have a new voice, personality, and even way of walking.
  • Elementals: TBD (You'll start off with one and the max limit is five)

@Parable, Alchemy is even older the medieval period, it's ancient but alchemy as we recognize it today had its increased heyday during the Renaissance so... yeah. It's not as young as you think it is.

Mousa, you misunderstood what I said. It's not that it's too new, it's that it's too old. Alchemy was disregarded as a science by the 1800's. To say he practices alchemy would be like saying he's into the occult in that time period.

Dont Look Back: Keep in mind that all these elementals will be randomly assigned to a player at the before the game begins. All those trivia points aren't going to mean anything.

Strat: Marisa and the first two elementals are accepted. J.J., however is not because I am not fond of the idea of any elemental being able to whip up whatever he wants out of nothing.
