Mathematically impossible. Out of the six, we know of three that, for absolute sure, he doesn't have. If Loki's scepter genuinely is one, that's four, leaving a mere two he could have in his possession.

Considering only one nearly made Ronan unstoppable, having two would already be enough to doom the universe in the hands of a clever man.

And Thanos is very, very clever.

But attempting to doom the universe with only two makes it pretty likely that the other four will turn against you. And clever or stupid, no one wants to be on the wrong end of people wielding four out of six Infinity Stones.

I expect Thanos to have exactly one Infinity Gem in his possession. Based on Loki's scepter, probably the Mind Gem.

Two is unnecessary, and if Loki's scepter turns out to actually be the Mind Gem, having zero in his possession because he gave the Mind Gem to Loki makes Thanos the most incompetent villain in the MCU despite not even having done anything yet.

Or the smartest. It's the Mind Gem. Thanos probably didn't really lose it, based on its ability to influence without anyone even holding it and Loki's mental state throughout The Avengers. It could even be a way to tie up all three/four Avenger movies, since it's probably set to make an appearance in the next one.

I still believe that the staff is not an infinity stone in itself, but only somthing which can channel the power of one.

Same. I expect it's something similar to the Tesseract weapons, an Infinity-powered derivative of the actual Gem. This would both allow Thanos to have the Mind Gem at the start of Infinity War, while also avoiding the pitfall of Thanos being stupid enough to hand it over to Loki of all people and then lose it on Earth.

There's an unwritten rule of collectible plotlines that the Big Bad will always have exactly one of the MacGuffins in his possession at the beginning of the tale, and it will usually remain in his possession until such a time that the villain inevitably collects the set, either by beating the hero to them or by letting the hero gather all but the one he has and then swiping them.

Well, in this case the heroes are not exactly collecting, are they? They are mostly keen on keeping the stones they have apart from each other.

I don't know, that means we don't get to see the Mind Gem in play in another movie first, unless Thanos uses it in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, or something.

...Hell, maybe that could be The Stinger.

I like the idea that Thanos is channeling the power of the Mind Gem - which is in his possession - through the scepter, and is using it to keep tabs on the situation on Earth, but allows HYDRA (and by extension everyone else) to assume that the power is within the scepter itself and go nuts / cause chaos because it hurts his enemies / weakens Earth and thus helps his goals.

The Stinger could be a shot of Thanos, showing that he has been using the scepter from afar to manipulate the entire situation and may even have a direct line to Ultron... though admittedly I'd prefer it if Ultron was largely independent of Thanos.

Overall, I do think it would be odd to have the second Avengers movie lack even the vaguest of connections to Thanos. Even if he doesn't appear in it directly, the movie should push the Infinity Stone story arc forward at least a little bit. Since I don't believe Ultron himself should be reporting to Thanos, that just leaves something related to the Scepter and the probable Mind Gem as the link.

The Maximoffs will probably be the connection, since they're basically locked up with the Mind Scepter.

I also like the idea that Thanos is able to use the connection between the scepter and the Mind Gem - without the Gem actually being in the scepter - to manipulate through it, but I don't think he should be overly involved in the events transpiring in Avengers 2; Hydra has the scepter because that's where it wound up after the invasion failed, but with the Space Gem no longer on Earth, Thanos has no great reason to care what's going on there.

I mean, I'm all for Thanos tooling around New York in his Thanoscopter trolling Earthlings for lulz, but I think it might detract from the mystique they're trying to build around him to have him screwing with the Earthlings for literally no reason at all. Thanos is after Infinity Gems and the Earth no longer possesses one; he has better things to be doing with his time.

Unless there is another Infinity Gem on Earth, which is always possible. There's still 2 Infinity gems that are completely unaccounted for.

Possible, but ridiculously improbable. It would hurt the franchise's credibility for two Gems to be on Earth, out of all the places in the infinite universe they could be.

I'm guessing the three gems we haven't found yet will be:

  1. In the possession of some entity in the Doctor Strange movie. Maybe Dormammu?
  2. Somewhere out in space where it will be discovered by the Guardians of the Galaxy in the second movie.
  3. Already in Thanos's possession.

I'm pretty sure the mind is going to be the scepter and that'll be part of the impetus for Thanos finally coming to Earth himself once he has the others.

I predict part 1 is gonna be the heroes desperately trying to keep the scepter away from Thanos and then when that fails part 2 is them heading out in space to make one last attempt to stop him.

Things i want for the sequel:

1) Nebula, Gamora and Drax needs development(especially Drax who got his ass kicked a bit too much).

2) Aliens that actually look like aliens.

3) the Novas being Novas instead of being a SF version of the Keystone Cops.

4) Cosmo being a lieason for the Guardians.

5) Peter being more heroic and less jokie.

6) Adam Warlock.
