Now that we've renamed The Messiah to All-Loving Hero, we better do something about this one.

It has only 21 inbounds and 31 wicks, for the record. And it seems to misuse "messiah" like The Messiah did.

Support rename.

Only name suggestion I can find is Not So All Loving Hero, which is a bit long.

It looks like tropes like Break the Cutie combined with All-Loving Hero. I think we can try a name that doesn't use Break in it.

I kinda like Not So All Loving Hero. Maybe it could be Not So Loving Hero instead.

How about Once All Loving Hero?

Not So All Loving Hero is nice, but it doesn't make him sound broken, just a hero that doesn't love all.

For what it's worth, the description appears to be "a loving person is revealed to have a weak spot in his/her loving".

[up]Yeah, the name you suggested is the most fitting one for that description.

Huh... do we have a trope for an actual broken Messiah?

You know, The Chosen One who cracks under all the strain.

After reading the trope page I question Broken Messiah's tropability. In my opinion, this trope is a way to play with All-Loving Hero.

Downplayed: They love most people but not everyone. (OR) They love their love interest more than they love everyone else Deconstructed: In real life, everyone will, at some point in their life, find someone they dislike or commit a selfish act.

It could also be seen as a downplayed version of Fallen Hero; not perfect but not truly "fallen".

Third, there is significant overlap with Break the Cutie. Start off with an innocent and idealistic character who loves everyone and helps others etc and then discovers feelings of jealousty or hatred and is tormented by them.

This trope is really saying: heroes are only human. It's really: this hero is a well-rounded character, with flaws, who's relatable! That doesn't imply "broken" at all. This name is terrible.

[up] Precisely! That's why it doesn't count as a trope.

This is like Heroic BSoD over petty things. It's Heroic Self-Deprecation, but not necessarily for heroes. The name is garbage, but I wouldn't mind if this trope were cut entirely or cut and sent it back to YKTTW. Considering there are only 30 wicks, cutting it is certainly feasible.

I think there's a trope in there somewhere. It just needs cleanup and clarification.

Heroic Self-Deprecation requires a lot more than just a negative reaction to something bad.

Why not just "Broken Hero"?

You mean merge the two tropes? Because Broken Hero is already a separate trope on its own.

I thought it was just a suggestion. Didn't know that was a trope.

Should we look at that as well?

[up]Looking into the description of Broken Hero, it seems to be about "a hero who remains nice and cheerful despite having been broken or in some way".

That one's about unreasonable lack of angst.

Angst? What Angst? actually seems to be used a lot for "character doesn't angst enough", but I'm pretty sure that's misuse.

Broken Hero sounds similar to The Pollyanna but that's neither here nor there. I'm seeing a number of ways we could resolve this.

1. Cut the trope 2. Merge into Broken Hero 3. Merge into Self Depricitation 4. Find a trope somewhere in here.
