I think outside the wiki this trope is misused a lot as well. Nobody seems to think about that.
"8.8" is a term coined by TV Tropes. Just do a Google Search of "8.8" or "eight point eight". There is practically no outside use, even when you add "Twilight Princess" to the search. That said, I'm endorsing Subar Rating Backlash.

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. We coined a lot of tropes, but can't rename them because they became general terms outside the wiki.
Well, since we are all talking about a rename crowner. Page Action, because there were other options as well. I didn't add any pros and cons or data points as of now.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCrowner's hooked.
Downvoted, because I think we need to agree on what the trope actually means first. I still interpret the description as "review that is seen as either too high or too low [EDIT] in relation to the average score [/EDIT] causes RAEG".
Same here: first paragraph of the description.

I downvoted the rename, but for a different reason: I do not think that the data available justify to ignore the inbounds quite enough.
As for the definition, it's useful if everybody says where they took their definition from. I took it from the first sentence and the following text of the description.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt seems to me that rather than rename it, we should work out what definitions we have for this page. If that turns out to be multiple tropes, a split and disambig would be more productive. It's pretty clear from both this thread and the earlier Image Pickin' thread that there is no agreement on what this trope is supposed to be.
It's an Audience Reaction. And a negative one (mostly), so we probably aren't going to have more of it (=splitting).
Anyhow, what I said in the last sentence of my previous post.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI got mine from the incident seven years ago that started the meme; Madraguda has confirmed earlier in the thread that that's what the page was supposed to be.
The thing is that, although there have been lots of inbounds looking for something here, we have no idea what it is they're looking for. Examples for this page are all over the place, and google confirms that no consistent definition for the term exists either.

Aside from that, I don't see much point in having a page that is just "a review causes raeg": that's just Complaining About Reviews You Dont Like.
All this sounds like a good argument to turn this into a Fan Speak definition page.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat sounds like a reasonable solution.
Clean up the description and pull the examples. That sounds like the best choice now.
I added the Fan Speak crowner option. I should probably note that splitting off the Audience Reaction is not mutually exclusive with turning the current page into a Fan Speak definition, assuming that someone is going to do that.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI moved the issue to the top of the crowner and simplified the rename option.
I vote for keeping the examples.

There was no Do nothing option.
I think we need a choice for just cleaning the example rather than taking the chainsaw to it.
You'll have to define what the cleanup entails.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI wrote that it is cleaning up the definition and examples.
Clean up definition as what? We've had at least three different definitions in the thread so far, with no agreement on which is the right one, and at least one of those is just Complaining About Shows You Dont Like.
Upvoted define and clean up. (Not "redefine", "define". )
I agree, I think we need to start by coming to some conclusion what it means.
What's I've always thought is that it's when backlash is caused by a decent score being seen as bad because it's not as high as what everyone else gave it(or sometimes just because it's not a perfect 10/10) So when the scores high, but not high enough.

Crown Description:
A wick check has shown that Eight Point Eight has approx 77% misuse for He Panned It Now He Sucks, Critical Dissonance, Complaining About People Not Liking The Show, and simply "a game got a bad rating".
But can we rename it though? The whole used outside the wiki thing.
