Look, I know it's fun to riff on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but that car isn't even listed among the examples. This isn't for Awesome, but Impractical car designs, this is for cars that the characters shouldn't even have. And while the car in question is highly anachronistic, the fact that it belongs to Captain Nemo, who already has an impossibly cool submarine, kind of makes that a non-issue.

[up] Got a point. The League example is just straight up Cool Car, making it Not An Example. Agree with pull, but would like to see some replacements. Shouldn't be too hard finding somebody driving a car that doesn't fit their appearance.

Definite pull. It's misleading. It makes it seem like the trope is just, well, an Impossibly Cool Car.

Going through the examples, I'm not finding any that seem like it would be visually illustrative, showing both "cool car" and "there's no reason this person would have one."

[down]Exactly.

I think this illustrates the name of the trope rather than the trope itself, yes?

What about something like this? The guy's clothes and relatively mundane, "middle-class" surroundings might make his owning a Ferrari improbable.

[up] Not to mention his age. A kid driving a Ferrari is a disaster waiting to happen.

6 looks good. My only problem is that what is shows is already what the quote says. It doesn't have to be someone who looks like he's barley old enough to drive, but the picture doesn't just show age so I do support it.

I would go with 6.

Yup. The car is way cooler than he is.
