Still sticking to the Spike theme... What about this pic of Spike and Drusilla?
Personally, I think it works brilliantly. Spike's duster establishes him as a badass, while the way he's looking at Drusilla establishes his devotion to her. That she, on the other hand, isn't at all paying him any attention establishes said devotion is somewhat one-sided; which makes all the more better.

It's better, but still doesn't really say badass to me. Partially because at first glance, the duster looks more like a robe and he's shorter than the girl.

Spike looks taller than Dru in the pic to me. Even if not, what's wrong with having the guy shorter than the girl?
As for the duster/robe confusion, it looks pretty clear that it's some sort of coat in my opinion; what with it having a collar at all. And even if it was a robe, it's a leather robe; which would again qualify Spike as looking badass regardless.
It works better than the old image. I'd still like to see other suggestions.

The trope "fool for love" is that somebody acts all macho but really is extremely loyal to his love interest... which means that Spike and Dru are Not An Example. Plus I find they're really just two faces and a caption anyway, I don't really buy the complicated explanation above.
I think cartoons would have clearer examples of this.
