I was inspired to make this post because I just got banned from a forum for having the word "troll" in my signature. (No, seriously.)

What are the most ridiculous reasons for being banned you've ever seen? (But not on TV Tropes.)

I've had a friend of mine be banned from a Yu-Gi-Oh! forum for not exposing herself.

Yeah, Duelistgroundz.com is a shit-hole.

Got temporarily suspended on another board because we were discussing politics and things got a tad too hot on all sides.

Which is Hilarious in Hindsight because we've all since moved to our own board since the original closed down and banning is not a thing there. (The only real rule there is don't do anything that gets the site owner in legal trouble.)

I'd like to think this is obvious but that's fucked.

@ Oceans; You're right, it's fucked. The YGO! community is the single worst community I've ever known. Completely up their own arses, racist, sexist, trying to be alpha male but the sad truth is none of them would know what to do with a lass if they ever suppressed their stale-Cheezits aroma enough to get near to one without her throwing up.

[up] Sadly, I know it. I used to play the game casually with my best friend years ago back in high school.

We eventually decided to give the local YGO! spot a try and... Well... Most people were nice enough. You know, just there to have fun and make friends.

But there was a noticeable degree of assholishness, bitterness and ridiculous angst going on too More-so than other little gatherings like that I had ever been to. It was bad enough we stopped going after a few sessions.

It's actually pretty saddening to know that it's like that sort of across the board. That said, I'm happy I pretty much don't play any more at the same time if that's what they are like.

I've never been banned, but I got a threat from Deviant Art back in 2008 that I would be if I didn't take down an art form of this rapper I hated. I guess many butthurt fans reported it and tried to removed it.

@ Ocean; Believe me, it's like that on a larger scale when you go to things like Nationals and Euros. I used to play rather heavily, then got a job writing for Yu-Gi-Oh! World GX magazine, so I was at these events fairly often, and if it wasn't for a couple of really nice people (the only ones I still stay in contact with), I'd've probably had to slit my wrists just to escape.

[up] Damn, you'd really like to think proper tournaments like Nationals would try and come down on that nonsense but I guess that's asking too much.

I can bet you're glad to be rid of all that. I wouldn't be able to handle it without losing my shit.

I miss the game itself, to be honest. Or, I miss how the game used to be, before things like Dark Armed Dragon hit and made the game all about who had more money, rather than who had more skill. The Perfect Circle format was fantastic in every way, and rewarded skillful players, whereas DAD format was all about who had a spare £500 to spend on their deck and who drew a couple of DA Ds before their opponent.

The people, of course, I'm happy not to be around. Making the switch from Yu-Gi-Oh! to professional wrestling was the best decision for my social life, my body, and just life in general.

Indeed, I'm not liking what I know of the current format myself, actually.

And, funnily enough, my best friend that I mentioned actually did the exact same thing. When he stopped YGO! he ended up dedicating more time to wrestling and is happier for it.

Wrestling seems to have that affect on people. [lol]

I was dumb as shit back then, but as far as I can remember, I think I've gotten banned in a Animal Crossing forum for the whole 'What do you have in home' thread.

Idk, I can only remember it as the box scenario. I got punished for... six months? A week? Can't remember... I was eight back then.

@ Oceans; Wrestling does! It dumps you in with a bunch of people with confidence, and that rubs off on one another. It also makes you feel much better physically, and pushes you to achieve real goals.

Costs less too :P

I will admit though, I've still got my Chain Burn deck (it's cheap, and you never, ever have to change how you play it, no matter what deck you're against, so I can use it in any format) and a fun Hamster Monarch deck still built, if I ever have to head back to a tournament.

It's probably best not to mention the names of the places you were banned from, as I'm fairly certain that counts as importing drama.

The definiton of "drama" sure must be vague.

Irene Since: Aug, 2012

It definitely counts.

What happened to you on another site should not be brought up here where everybody can see. It's one thing to be vague and get some reasonable comfort. It's another to accidentally start a cross-site war.

...Also, I admit this topic could very easily de-volve into drama as is.

Prepare the battleships, for we might provoke a cross-site war. This is why we can't have nice things.

Does this sound as ridiculous to you as it does to me? tongue

I was banned from the Snopes forums for being an underage b&; everyone thought I was in my thirties until I accidentally let it slip that I was 16.

I got banned from neopets for talking about my friend hating overly-muscled women. The reason was "real world issues". :l

Clearly muscular women don't exist and are just part of an elaborate scheme of the media.

From my troper page:

I remember being banned once from a forum for taking things literally, being banned for getting my account hacked (I'm not allowed to create a new account anymore, and a hacker deleted my previous account at another forum), and, at another forum, I've been banned just because I exist.

I don't remember what forums those were, though. Not anymore.

(This post will probably reveal the truth.)

This one's probably pretty loose, but I got autobanned from a Minecraft server once because the lag on my computer was making the server think I was using speed hacks.

I didn't actually get banned, but I was scolded severely (and "smited") by a moderator and two other members for allegedly insulting her mother. Do you want to know what the "insult" was?

'Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries.'

Yes, I quoted Monty Python and was taken seriously. The worst part is, I wasn't even jokingly directing it at her mother but rather explaining another poster's allusion to Monty Python.

I guess they had never seen that part of Holy Grail.

Fear is a superpower.
