Just a Face and a Caption: Wicked Stepmother

I know Snow White is about as iconic as you can get for this trope, but the trope doesn't even look like her. It looks like some guy is selling a rope to Wonder Woman, honestly. If we're relying on myopia anyway, we should probably use the Disney version, or at least one that has the iconic apple and not... a rope.

The queen is already on God Save Us from the Queen!. I don't know how to illustrate the "step" part of the trope.

That was my thought too...it needs something establishing the relationship.

How about Lady Tremaine and Cinderella?

That looks like generic Abusive Parents to me (assuming that the old lady is a parent at all, step or no)

Even so, I still think it's an improvement. Not great, but still better.

We could combine the entire intro with a caption like "Widower. Remarries. Dies. Abuse."

Eh. Seems like Just A Montage And A Caption, because there's no way I would've been able to tell what was happening at all from the images alone. Honestly just kinda looks like the woman in purple has been hunting down Cinderella's family.

I don't think we really need to establish that she's the stepmother. That's way too much going on. I think Cinderella is more iconic than Snow White because most people think of Lady Tremaine as the Wicked Stepmother and the Queen not so much, since at least in the Disney version it's All in the Manual.

At least we don't need the first frame.

Are we sure that the stepmother status is well-known enough? I don't think so.

I think the Cinderella part is good, and it strikes me as one of the best-known fairy tales involving a stepmother.

Please don't bite my head off for this one, it's my first genogram so it may not be 100% right.

It looks very good. Any way to indicate that the father is deceased?

Maybe add "widowed" above "2nd marriage"?

I really like the concept of that, but I'd rework the bottom pic so it's larger...at that size Cinderella's face is doing something weird.

Is it bad that I want to caption that first pic in 4 as "Cinderella caught practicing for her first date."?

I did some checking and the standard way of denoting a deceased person in a genogram is to put an X over their symbol, so I put one over Cinderella's mom and dad. (Also, marriages are supposed to go "down" to avoid confusion). I also went ahead and made her pic bigger and the font on "Abuse".

It's been almost a week and there seems to be broad support for 18. Should we put it up, or are there any more tweaks I can make?

18 is absolutely great, and I doubt we will find something better, either in concept or execution.
