...I think 18 looks more like a regular rocket than the current.

But the thrust is clearly coming from the ground, not the rocket.

And the explosion in the current is clearly set off behind the shield, not from it.

On a purely aesthetic level I like the current image, but as a trope page image it doesn't work so well. +1 for 18

Thread seems to have stagnated. Most everyone seems in agreement, so how do we make an official decision?

I don't think we're in agreement at all. I think we need a crowner.

I'd imagine the suggestion will win it, but there should be a crowner when there's disagreement.

There's no obvious consensus. Crowner will have to decide.

Cool images, but not really better than the "rocket on a nuclear mushroom" pic.

...aside from the fact that it doesn't really look much like a nuclear mushroom and is a misrepresentation of how it would have been used...

I like the first because you can see a trail of explosions behind it. Also, updated with a third link.

But you can't really see that it isn't an engine at the back, rather than just a shield. The angle in the current makes that much more obvious.

Also, all explosions look like they're the same size, which removes the illusion of them being created one after another.

Agreed. I like the idea of the older explosions behind it, but it's really unclear with the most recent explosion. It just looks like exhaust, and that's the most important one.

I still like the current.

The current also has scarcely more support than the suggestion.

What do you think of the book cover?

Not a fan of 35.1 - the explosions blend too much with the background.

This crowner's in a state of crash-and-burn. I'll give it one or two more days to see if anything actually gets a consensus, but no consensus on anything is a default keep for the current. Vote accordingly.
