So, I was arguing with some people in an RP about I treated magic and the analogy I realized I was using for I treated was magnetism.

That is, the magic is like metal and the spell is a magnet, acting on a certain wave length to attract certain magic. That's just the gathering magic to yourself part though. What happens when you shape it can be anything.

Thoughts?

Seems interesting smile how exactly does that work though? I'd like an example to make sure I'm picturing it correctly.

You cast a spell of fire, your words are like a magnet to aetherial power attuned to fire, gathering that powering into yourself.

Revisiting the concept of the Power Crystals

In the beginning, when the world was young, when the connection between the Material and Aetherial was strong and the barrier was at its weakest, there were born six celestial gods who full manifested upon this world as crystals and hence then have never left. They crystalline gods, despite their existence on this world, must do as all celestial gods do, and act through mortal champions. Each one chooses one champion, a champion they live vicariously through to wrought their concept upon this world. Being born when when the world was young, they are beyond such concepts of good and evil, when none could ever conceive of such things, broad, primitive concepts, ancient and primordial.

The Red Crystal Of Survival, strongly associated with Pragmatism and Greed
The Yellow Crystal Of Glory, strongly associated with Heroism and Sadism
The Green Crystal Of Rest, strongly associated with Peace and Sloth
The Cyan Crystal Of Passion, strongly associated with Love and Insanity
The Blue Crystal Of Desire, strongly associated with Pleasure and Gluttony
The Violet Crystal Of Fury, strongly associated with Righteousness and Hate

These crystals are the Ur power crystals, the mightiest examples known in the world, growing only mightier as the eons pass, eternally evolving with the people they use as hosts. Each one, bearing its own almost bestial intelligence, chooses a host that best exemplifies its concepts and inhabits their body. Then it grants the host the full raw power of a celestial god upon this material plane. When its living host dies, the immortal crystal finds a new host and begins it all again.

Do they really have to be all crystals? Can't they just be a set of objects that grant celestial power? Otherwise, I think my problem here would be about what these crystals have power over. I don't really see what Dury has to do with Righteousness or what Glory has to do with Sadism, for example.

Well, for Violet, it was Righteous Fury.

For Yellow, I might have been dipping into Exalted a little bit by picking out the Solars (Who were picked for being glorious heroes but then turned into sadistic tyrants, who were also glorious)

Yeah, I don't really see Sadist Glory, nor Sadist Heroism. But anyways, do they have to be crystals? Why crystals?

Okay, so they don't have to be crystals, that's just my take on it, but I give that anyone else can take a shot at it.

A) Each of them takes a different form from each other.
B) Each of them takes a different form in every incarnation.

I was thinking about it... Are Pragmatism, Heroism and Righteousness really primordial concepts?

[up]Well, B would give some freedom to the G Ms in case they want to use these in their campaigns, and anyways I suppose we should/could give examples of previous incarnations of these crystals, thus we would end up making examples for A anyways.

I suppose Survival and Fury would often be weapons, such as swords and axes, but the latter, along with Glory, could be some sort of headgear like a crown or a laurel wreath. Passion and Rest could be a pillow or a mantle (bedsheet), or for the former, maybe a mirror alongside Desire.

They're not Primordial Concepts, but they tend to be linked to those crystals as modern people come to understand them.

I think this project has lost a lot of its drive.

Can anyone tell why?

Life events, loss of interest, in-fighting every other topic, other projects, the call of the summer sun, the loss of forward momentum that comes with a reboot ... lots of factors.

I think we should at least archive what we have of both versions on another wiki, even if we don't continue progress it be nice if the setting existed somewhere beside this forum

Like a wiki where the entries are not just links to forum posts, I'd be fully willing to take to bulk responsibility in when it comes to re-uploading entries.
