Awhile ago I did a big clean-up of Audio Erotica. Of 656 wicks, only 115 were examples. 18%.

Since then, I've consistently tried keeping Audio Erotica clean, with breaks every so often. The last time I did a full clean was probably two-three months ago, and consistently the great majority of new examples are misuse. It was at 167 examples in my last clean up, and in the short months I hadn't touched it it crawled to 207. I culled down to 179. 12 true examples out of 28. Right now the examples are going to be almost entirely clean. The rate of misuse hasn't really slowed at all since I started keeping it clean about a year and a half ago.

In short, it could really use a rename to denote this is In Universe Examples Only. I'd be willing to clean up all the wicks and what-not. Just...please, a rename.

I'd agree on a rename, but to what?

Amazing how fast the TRS filled back up, though.

I wish I could think of something less...plain than Intentional Audio Erotica, but I actually cannot.

Hey! I've been sitting on this for months, you just give this one to me. Just let me have it.

I thought of Audio Porn, since for me "porn" always is intentional.

Nah, that'll get just as misused. "Erotica" is, after all, another word for porn, just the fancy kind. Plus we have Scenery Porn and it's a pretty common colloquial usage for the word.

What about Sexy Voice? Oh, wait... In-Universe...

That sounds even more like Fetish Fuel than the current.

It's cool that you keep an eye on the trope. I like the current name, but if you think the re-name would help to stop the misuse, I'm all for it.

I was thinking about something simple (though perhaps bland) like Sexy Voice, but I have no idea ho to add there the notion of it being In-Universe only.

Audio Erotica is a great name, don't get me wrong. But it's one that contributes heavily to misuse. It might have to get a different kind of name entirely, like He Thinks Her Voice Is Sexy or something.

Or Seduced By Their Voice, to emphasize the in-universe nature?

[up] Oh yes, that's quite nice. Wow! I really couldn't think of anything, but I think that works great.

I actually think that cleaning up the description might do more. Yes, "in universe sexy voices" is correct, but it's not very clear. That's the sort of thing that makes sense to forum regulars, but probably not so much to your average troper.

Not that I'm opposed to a rename. I just...well, I overlooked the "in-universe" the first time I skimmed the description, and was very confused by this discussion. I think it might be more to the point to start out with something like, "A voice that other characters find inherently sexy."

I think a rename might help with misuse enough to be justified, though I'd want a good suggestion. I'm not entirely sold on Seduced By Their Voice, as it sounds similar to dialogue.

[up][up] Anything to help would be fine, but in this case, I'm quite confident that it really has nothing to do with the description. Almost all (if not all) of our tropes that describe something attractive about a character get horribly misused.

True that, and I have some doubts that a rename is going to help.

Seduced By Their Voice sounds like it requires an actual seduction.

[up][up] It sort of does—since this trope is in-universe, someone has to find it erotic in order for it to count.

[up] I do like that. I still wonder about misuse, but that does seem like it would cull a lot of it. Maybe just Honey In Their Ear? That seems to reference the 'they' a tiny bit more.

[up]Am I the only one whose brain immediately goes to unpleasantly literal places when I hear "honey in their ear"?

No to the "honey" names. They are just yet another example of innuendo-like names.

Seduced By Their Voice may work for me.

I just don't think "finding it erotic" is really the same as "seduced by". I frequently find things sexy or erotic without being seduced by them (and a couple times in my life, I've had the opposite happen).
