Speaking of Coach, does Norio Wakamoto have a role?

One thing though. That scene where the uniform forces himself onto Ryuko. I'm not sure how to read that...

Anyway I was kinda wondering...when she took that guy out her uniform absorbed a small piece of red string. No doubt that will be used to power up her uniform, but considering it's string I wonder if her uniform will literally grow so as to cover more skin? tongue

Wonderful incentive for her to tolerate the humiliation and just keep fighting so she won't be forced to wear such skimpy clothing.

I do love Ryuko's voice. Her rough quality is definitely the opposite of the stereotypical high pitched squeakiness associated with anime girls. Mako has that stereotypical voice instead but it comes of as endearing rather than annoying.

Also, that whole apology with taking the man's bike, giving said man his delivery item, and giving it back with a note. It made me like Ryuko as a character. She may be out for revenge but she isn't selfish because of it.

[up] I love how Mako just stands like a statue after Ryuko rescues her, even after she puts her back on the ground. [lol]

[up]x to many to count. FLCL is what came to mind for me too. Wow, that was more Crazy Awesome than I expected.

We got Grey And Gray background....because, sure as hell, nothing else is. Which is actually nice to see once in a while it's done well.

Hope the uniform can talk while being worn. Seems like that would be a good thing.

Even if she is weak against strong people(it's one of her strengths), I hope we see Mataro(Mako's sister) again also.

Yes, Ryuko blushing the entire time was awesome.

Also, if I'm heard it right, was it the UNIFORM doing the next episode narration? What? XD

She's voiced by Kallen from Code Geass and is the current voice of Mai Shiranui,I expected no less that Ryuko would sound badass.

Just rewatched the ep with my brother, we both laughed so hard at the part in the beginning when the uniform thief is running down the stairs and Ira goes past in the window (twice) then is waiting at the door [lol].

Because you can never tell who's on the same level of irony as you.

I'll admit that this is a significant part of it, but there's also the fact that overly enthusiastic fans make me want to tear shows to shreds, even though I acknowledge that doing so would irrational and pointlessly confrontational.

Very rarely does something not only meet high expectations but surpass them.

Oh my god that was amazing. Also, I do have a feeling that she'll actually get MORE modest as she gains in power which will be a nice twist. Also I like how she hates the Vapour Wear she has to wear. [lol]

Also, Mako has a serious blue theme about her....what if she's the wielder of the blue scissors!? surprised

[up]

Because we like a show we're excited about? The whole "SAVING ANIME" thing is just a running joke.

Because you're annoying. And any virtues the show may actually possess are drowned out by people praising it in a general or nonsensical way. And in a more general sense it's hard to hold a discussion when people are constantly throwing "it's going to save anime" around for no particular reason. Basically it makes the unwinding process of talking to people about an episode you just watched unfun instead of relaxing.

I'll be the first to admit that this is a personal issue, but I doubt I'll hang out in this thread much in the future.

Gonna rip something from another forum in regards to that.

I think people complaining about "overhype" are missing the point completely. Kill la Kill, much like TTGL, is so fun to watch because it consciously kicks logic to the curb and makes every little thing absurdly grand. It hypes itself up and it acknowledges that it's doing so, practically scene by scene. All this "ANIME IS SAVED," "11/10," "#basedtrigger," and so forth, is just fans doing the exact same thing that the show is doing. Getting into the mood of a show is completely natural. In this case, the resulting statements are such that, when taken seriously, they might mislead people into believing that all Kill la Kill fans have shit taste and think that they know everything about an anime after one episode. Obviously, that's not actually the case and people are just having fun.

tl';dr, by taking the "overhyping" seriously, you're missing the point of Kill la Kill itself.

Also its the first episode of a show people were hyped about. You think the 2 cours, this forum is going to be nothing but "ANIME IS SAVED!!11"?

Yes, yes I do. Also I think you're a bit naive if you think these people are joking or just going with the flow. Hype is a powerful force, and this show is fundamentally aimed at the sort of people who don't like to think too much about their entertainment.

As for missing the point of the show... Honestly I wouldn't mind missing out on this. As I've already said I already hate the show because of you so it's all good.

Edit: For the record, I'm a person who dropped TTGL about three times, the last of which was in the middle of the second to last episode because I just couldn't bring myself to care. It's possible I'm not the target audience for this anyway.

Oh, I'm glad I made you hate a show because I enjoyed it, even though I have just started posting on this topic. See you then. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

And I appreciate you calling all the fans of this show dumb. Really classy. Great way to make people like you.

Isn't it great when everyone's happy?

But seriously though, when a series like this gets going the fans will come here and they are animals. It's quite terrifying.

Edit: I object to the idea that not liking to think about shows makes you dumb. How can you say that? This is offensive to me.

...well. Since we got that out of the way, has anyone noticed that most the animation in the trailers is from the first episode?

That's not surprising. How far ahead do yo think they actually animate these things? There's not much of a buffer in week to week television production.
